After spending some time in the 2nd gen forums, it sounds like lots of guys are removing the stock airbox and going with an open air filter, either a K&N RE-0880 cone type of thing, or a huge paper element filter.
After thinking about it, would it be possible on our first gens to one step further and eliminate the black rubber intake hose that runs from the turbo to the stock airbox, and just hang an air filter off the turbo?
I imagine the turbo sound would be much more evident--obviously some would like this and others wouldn't. Would there be any functional drawbacks, like maybe too much heat from the turbo, etc?
