Hard gear selection in 4 low

Hello,

Im wondering if you guys could tell me if the following is normal for my 2016 2500 69rfe.
I was backing up a fully loaded dumb trailer in 4 low today and every time I would move the shift lever I get a heavy lurch/shimmy throughout the whole truck and a very loud clunking noise. When i would put it in park i could feel the truck windup like when you power brake. It would stay like that till I would shift at which point Id get the lurch and noise. The parking brake was set before I put it in park. (Ive had too many issues with it getting stuck in park when either on a hill or a trailer in tow.)
Things seemed to go back to normal when I took it out of 4 low.

Any thoughts? Im looking to get it delt with, if needed, sooner than later. I need a fully functioning 4 wheel drive system and trans for a 2.5-3 week off roading trip we have planned for July out west. Cant afford to have it go bust when we will be so remote.

What kind of terrain are you on when in 4lo? If there's any amount of traction your putting things in a serious bind when turning the wheels. If you need the low range without 4wheel drive they make a 2low kit for these trucks that prevents the front end from engaging.

I was in my drivway that had maybe the slightest of angles, im talking just enough to let the water run off. That 2 low kit sounds interesting, don’t typically need low range but it does sound interesting.

Tire wear front to rear? On pavement it would make much more difference if the wear is significant.

My truck does basically the same thing when I back my trailer in 4 low (and 2 low, I have the kit). It has always done it and I haven't been concerned.

i always chuckle when i see somebody throw it in park on a incline and it bounces two or three times on the locking pawl

What kind of driveway?

Angle doesn’t really matter as much as the surface composition.

The drive tain is wound up from the torque mutiplied from being in low. When shifting under load will in 4x4 low, always pause in nuetral before going into park or the opposite gear. Otherwise normal.

I agree. It's always a good idea to pause in neutral, especially before selecting Park. Also, abrupt clunks are normal in low range. The low selection at the transfer case amplifies the effect of changes made by everything upstream (engine & transmission) .

It's normal.
