I had a southbend confe installed about 6weeks ago and it seems that the truck is alot harder to get into first and reverse lately. Any ideas on what the problem might be?I had the fifth gear nut fixed before having clutch installed and put in the mopar oil they call for. Thanks for any suggestions Jason

Mine did the same thing and I just installed a SBC HD adjustable hydraulic assembly and now it shifts like it once did. It is recommended that you replace them, master and slave cylinders, when you replace the clutch. The adjustment of this unit is a thing of beauty. I no longer have to push through the firewall to disengage the clutch. The clutch also requires less effort to depress.

I thought it might be a hydraulic problem. Did your keep getting worse? It seems that if i start out in second its not as had to get into gear as first is. What did the hd kit cost you? Thanks Jason

The SBC disk is a little heavier than the stocker, so the synchros have to work a harder to match the gear speeds. When you shift into gear at a stop after idling in neutral, the synchros have to stop the rotating clutch disk before they allow the gears to mesh. The heavier disk has more rotating mass, so it takes a bit longer to slow down.

When you're shifting into first or reverse. clutch it, count to three, then try to shift. That'll give the synchros a bit of a break.

If the clutch isn't dragging, then changing the hydraulics won't fix anything. As a test: while stopped with the engine idling, put the truck in first to stop the clutch disk, then back into neutral without releasing the clutch pedal. Count to ten and put the truck back in first. If it goes in easier, that tells you that the disk is still relatively stopped and that the clutch is releasing properly. If the disk has spun back up from a dragging clutch, gear selection will be difficult again.

There's probably nothing wrong with your setup. That's just the nature of the beast.

If you check out Dan the gear man at Quad 4X4 you will see that there is some truth to what I say. There is a blurb on his site about NV4500 hard shifts due more to hydraulics than mechanical issues. Mine started leaking back when I was on the clutch a lot ie. traffic jams, long lights, etc. . Your situation may not be the same as mine however mine now shifts as it should and I no longer have any difficulties rowing the gears, rolling or stationary. The unit was $225. 00 with tax and shipping from Renegade Diesel. Heck, he even delivered it to me on a Saturday at a customer's shop. Good luck.

I just had the 53 block replaced and while they were at it, I replaced the clutch... I have the LUK 2 sided clutch with ceramic on one side and fibre on the other...

Clutch works wonderful but I have a 5th gear problem (NV5600)... It clashes like there is no syncro... . I have to speed shift it... all other gears are good. Is my transmission going out?
