This has me confused. A long time ago my reverse lights started blinking anytime I applied pressure to the shifter. They finally quit working altogether. I assumed it was the switch either going out, or it was just on the verge of not making contact with the throw of the rod/cam. Like it wasn't threaded in all the way.

Anyway, I pulled the switch today, and according to my meter, I have 15V to the switch, and the switch appears to be working by checking continuity. Out at the bulb I could only get 10V with 2 hands, paint/rust and a plug on a very short harness. Maybe I coulda found 15V with another set of hands, I don't know.

At one point today, I parked my other truck behind the Dodge to use it as a mirror. I unscrewed the switch, plugged it back in and depressed it against the side of the transmission for ground and still no go!!

What gives?

Something else, has anybody had one of these strips apart? My truck came with dual filament bulbs, but it only contacts the low side ... ... ..... I wonder how hard it would be to tear the strip apart and rig up some contactors to burn both filaments?

Reverse switch:

I had the same symptoms as you have. Just replace the reverse switch on the side of the trans and you'll be back in business. I bought mine at Napa. It was the exact same switch that was in the trans from the factory.

I had the same "blinking reverse light" problem on mine and had it fixed under warrantee early on. The repair report said they repaired the light assembly and was very unspecific. However, now it's doing it again. Mine isn't affected by whatever I do to the shifter, so I'm leaning more towards a grounding issue or common connector. Both reverse lights flicker at the same time when I'm moving, which to me eliminates an indivual issue with the light strips. I know one thing, it's areal pain to get these assemblies apart to change bulbs.

Had the same problem, Blink, Blink, then nothing. Had the switch replaced under warranty about 2 weeks ago. Had to wait 2 week for the switch to come it. Service tech said they have replace several of them. My service sheet said something about the switch being grounded. Another question is, why did the lamp out light not come on. Is it because the light are not on long enough for the computer to see it.

I guess if there's a two week wait on the part, I best be getting my name in the pot as well. I recently noticed mine doing the same thing only a few nights ago, backing up my driveway. Seems as if the torque of the engine while idling in reverse caused mine to flicker.

I have the blinking lamps too. By the way they react by shifter wiggle, I think it's the switch. This will be the frist warranty issue for the truck.

Hmmm, I 've noticed mine do not "blink", but instead tend to dim and then brighten up again. Guess I had go get a switch also then. :(
