This has got to be one of the most ridiculous things RAM engineers ever decided to do! It's definitely a "What were they thinking" issue! Within two weeks of ownership, I noticed both water droplets after using a spray car wash and dust/particles after a drive down a dusty road inside the fuel filler entry. I'm supposed to simply "trust" that there's additional barriers to this stuff getting down into the fuel tank? Like the little rubber seal that's supposed to keep things from getting under the fuel filler door? On my truck, with the fuel fill door closed, there's still a gap that the seal doesn't close. So RAM thinks that after paying nearly $70,000 for my new truck, that I should just "trust" that the grit and water can't work it's way down into the fuel?!? No thanks, RAM. I made my own fuel cap for my $70K truck! I would love to have a conversation with the engineer that decided these expensive new trucks didn't need a cap on their fuel fill. The excuse that there's not enough room under the fuel door for a cap is really lame since many of us have already made our own caps that fit easily under the door. If you don't want to make your own, the price of the two caps offered by Geno's is a small price to pay for peace of mind!

Agree, it's right up there with the location of the oil filter. But not having a fuel cap is asking for trouble. Some folks are under the ellusion that there is a line that sends overflow and trash to the ground but that's not happening. The EPA would have a field day with that in CA. They have those stupid vent seals for gasoline and they going to allow diesel to run over to the ground. Not happening folks. When I overfill, it runs down the side of the truck.

It's a brand new truck, No malfunction, there's no overflow on my truck. You can't see it in my photo but there is nothing coming off the filler. With all the overflow protection in various states, I can't see how that would pass EPA requirements. Dumping fuel on the ground?

So you found that your filler is bypassing like described by others?

What I don't understand is why they didn't just leave the diesel cap where it was and then put the def fill somewhere else. They market it like filling the def tank is something you have to do everytime you fill up. My Diesel X5 had it buried in the engine bay to fill was a pain to get to but not really a big since the average person only fills it once every few months at most. At least the oil filter only needs to be accessed every 10-15 thousand miles. I'm sure it was a cost savings issue to not have to enlarge the door.

My friend has a GMC their DEF tank fill is under the hood. It's not an easy location to get at and fill with out spilling the DEF all over the place. As much as I don't like the Capless fill it works. Yes at some filling stations I can't fill fast or at all as it burps and clicks off. But it works. I have a cheap plastic dust cap that Geno's sent me when I bought my last setoff fuel filters like I said it works. It's not the best idea (the capless fill) but far from the worst.

Ok so I am thinking that I do not want to void the warranty by cutting open the dust protection. But I want to secure the opening. So I purchased two nuts to fit on the 2 screws holding the door on. The 2 nuts can hold 2 metal pieces specially constructed with a cylinder lock that with a combination with a hinge slides in and out of the only lip for locking in the bottom right corner

That's odd.....I'm not seeing the pictures..........;)

Not sure how it works but I can attest that my 2014 will port our on the ground whatever is in the neck should the 2nd flapper not be depressed... I have boots full of anti-gel to prove it.

Sexy may grow legs or get lost on its way home! Mine is cheep and dirty OEM product with a tether!

SNOKING

Not a bad idea. I've already have chased the plastic plug around the fuel station a few too many times.
