MBRP XP single exhaust for 2nd gen?

Has anyone ever tried using a Turbonetics T-66 turbocharger instead of an HX35/40 hybrid or an HX-40??? I was wondering if it spooled faster than a 40 and if it was a little more durable? With my current configuration my HX-35 is a little overspooled/overworked so I am trying to cover as many bases as I can before I make a decision. Thanks in advance.

Remember the truck that Mark Kendrick was working on? Triple (ball bearing) Turbonetics turbos, air/water intercoolers, etc. ? I can't post pictures of it because the moderators always slap my hands with a ruler when I do that...

Anywho - it had some ball bearing Turbonetics chargers on it and I'd venture a guess that the littlest of all the turbos was right around the T-66 size. I'd love to try one on either of my Cumminses. Heck, I have a really good friend that can get discounts on custom built stuff like that... he can even get trick billet compressor wheels. (Ooooooohhh!! :D )

That thread is kind of what got my wheel spinning about this idea, but instead of three just one. I also stumbled onto a flow chart for a bunch of turbos and found the T-66 was right there with an HX-40. I am just wondering what kind of exhaust flanges and turbine housing sizes are available and if anyone had tried this before. What ever happened to that triple turbo truck??? It seems like every thread that guy posts on eventually gets shut down.

The Turbonetics chargers can be had with a nearly infinite number of possible combinations of flanges, backplates, CHRA's, wheels, housings - all made with different materials that are all options.

Would it be possible to make a 'bolt-in' T-66? Yup. You'd have to fiddle with the exhaust discharge and compressor outlets... using custom made adapters - but those are not major stumbling blocks.

Center Housing Rotating Assembly

the popular Garrett turbos are great for gas applications or their ORIGINAL diesel applications... but the compressors just aren't efficient at the pressure ratios (high boost) that we run on our trucks...

you could use a large T-series as a bottom on a set of twins, but you could use a Holset or Schwitzer cheaper...

they're awesome for gassers, and I wish we had detailed maps for our holsets the way they do for Garretts, but we don't... :(

Does anyone know how big a stock turbo off a Cat 3116 is/ or comparible to? The engine is 6. 6L and according to Cat can have power output up to 350hp. Are Cat turbochargers made by Schwitzer??

What ever happened to that Mark Kendrick triple turbo truck? Is it in a museum somewhere? Did it ever run?

Shhhhh Now...

Its best to not ask any questions on this truck as the owner is very touchy when people "snoop" around looking for info on his truck. The last time this was brought to the forefront ugly things happened. Time to let the "Urban Legend Triple Truck" remain just that... ... ... ... . Andy

So that truck does exist?????

Yes,It does exist.

Kinda?????

As I have said before,do a search and see what happened the last time this truck was discussed or pictures were passed around. Its much better to leave the "Urban Legend"

alone.

i got pics in my computer if you want to see

I think everyone has the pics,or thought they did anyway.

With as much turmoil and controversy this truck stirred once before and all the problems related to it,again, its best to leave well enough alone..... Andy

It ran and is back home where it belongs. I never gat a chance to test it properly because it needed some transmission work. It also needs a little TLC to work the kinks out. It looks like the mating of an octopus and a dodge:D... . no room under the hood. IT was a lot harder than I ever imagined it could be.

I did buy enough parts on that truck to be a turbonetics dealer though;):D

Mark,

What did you learn from that experience? Surely you ran it enough to make a decision as to whether it was worth all the effort/money or not... :)

Matt

I thinkt it will be worth it. I ran it up to 40 psi and it was really strong for that boost level... impling that it SEEMED efficient. There are 2 - 2" NewGen wastegates that will have to be creatively actuated to make the truck run right. Getting it to run well will be easy but 'right' is another story.

I think there are more cost effective ways to make power but they aren't nearly as . When the wrinkles are ironed out of that beast WATCH OUT!!!

It seems to me like that thing would need to have hours of dyno tuning. It sure would be nice to see the truck in action. I bet that guy spent 75k on upgrades.
