Just like it says..... has anyone tried advancing the cam timing 5 or 10 degrees? what were the results? good or bad, i'd like to know if anyone has tried it on a daily driver.

I can't say i'd tear the motor down this far just to play with cam timing, but if your in the middle of a cam swap anyway, would you advance it or just install straight up?

Thanks, Dave

I replied without realizing who I was talking to.

I'd go off the recomendations of the person that spec'd the cam. I have heard of poeple installing one tooth advanced, but that sound slike an awful lot of advance to me. I would assume that the cam already has some advance ground into it. You didn't happen to get a cam card, did you? PM or call me if you've got specs :p

WShupe,

what happened on the VP with 5 degrees? my truck is 12 valve, so i don't have to worry about cam/crank position as far as the ecm is concerned. Did you get check engine lights or just poor drivability?

Forrest,

PM sent

one tooth is 10 degrees . there are 720 degrees in a cam rotation and 72 teeth

i normal advise advancing the cam to around 100 or as close as possable to that point , this opens the exhaust event sooner , and will thump a big single turbo, but for some reasion the 24 vp didn't like it there , that is the reason for dyno testing not just bragging rights over hp

True statement, I am anxious to see the dyno results with the stock keyway. Thanks for the cam Greg, it really helps make the 71mm LDP streetable.

It felt as though the CPS signal was altered, it lost it's responsiveness down low but ran well beyond 2K RPM. This was a sensor issue not a cam issue, as Greg stated, this is why we test.

I use off set keyways , But I don't send anything but a drop in unless someone is willing to degree it in and check clearence

I still haven't got the new one in yet. Both my kids have ball games everynight this week. I will try to get it in saturday and get a degree wheel on it to see where it's at.

Thanks for the quick shipping on the keyway Greg ;)

I'll need it saturday.

WShupe,

How did the cam help spool up that Charger? Noticable difference? That's the main reason for my cam swap... . 12v, tight converter, big charger on 3. 55 gears, it could use a little help down low.

I would not advance a 12 valve stock cam.

There is a great deal of performance in cam timing, and placement in the engine.

I believe that its erroneous that some still say that a cam technology’s haven’t a place in a proper engine development program. The truth is that a thoughtful cam program can change the personality of a motor dramatically. Just dialing in a cam a few degrees has still more effect

It seems to start spooling 2-300RPM earlier, driveability is up, and once it is on top of the charger it is much cleaner.

agreed, it's just another piece of the puzzle... valve event timing/duration is as important as injection timing/duration, etc.

we can bandaid around the stock cam pretty well... heck, I still run one... but I'd sure like to play around with a few of them. too bad it's not a 45min job like it is on an LSx :(
