I've had them installed for awhile now (but not the blacked out one's). I don't do alot of night driving but they are much better than stock. Just don't know if they're better than the sport conversion. I used to run some upgraded bulbs with a BriteBox but these are better than that. You might need to find a good wire harness w/relays to make them run correctly and not put a overload on the headlight switch and multi-switch, at least my 98. 5 needed them. Pricey but they work well and look much better than stock.

Chuck, I have a set of those on order. I also ordered a wire harness with a relay to take the load off the switch, and upgraded the bulbs. How is the construction of these lights, and what does the angel eye do? Is this set easily adjustable?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim, I also installed a wire harness (one on each side), can't remember where I ordered it from. Worked great though and the construction of the lights is very good. Had no problems with install or adjustment. Removing the black upper plastic trim on the bumper is necessary (pop it off from behind squeezing the individual attach tabs) but they adjust just like the factory unit. Not sure what the 'angel eye' is but the projector lense type is low beam, the H1 bulb is high and there are a few other lights that are just for show (a circular tube type light around the projector and three blue lites on the outside of it). I wired them to the park light. Only thing I haven't had time to figure out is how (or if even wise to do) to get the low and high beam on at once... like the brite box. I think you'll like the product. Much better than the weak stock units.

Chuck, the Angel Eye, or Demon Eye (depending on who you talk to) is a BMW term, referring to the coiled "halo" of light surrounding the actual light itself.

OK, never heard of that term, thanks. I wired mine thru the parking light function. That way it comes on in any headlight switch position. Hope that's right.
One other thing I should mention about these lights. You'll see at the adjusting screw (two on each unit) there is a spring like clip that goes over the screw part. In the process of installing the lights in the fender, those clips were popping off on me which makes the adjusting screw unusable. My solution was to take some lite safety wire and and secure this clip around the adjusting screw. Hard to put into words but I think you'll see how to deal with it when you get your lights. Minor flaw, the OEM units are kinda the same design. Save you from pulling them back out twice.

Thanks for the tips!! I hope I bought the correct wire harness from Sport Truck Direct. They did not have the harness listed on their site, but the guy I spoke to on the phone said they have what I need. He said it is a single harness with a relay made by Matrix. Chuck, do you remember which wire harness you are using, and where you bought it?

I'm usually pretty anal when it comes to keeping invoices, etc and wouldn't you know it the only one I can't find is the one for my wiring/harness/relays. I needed to modify the end going to the H1 bulb but it was easy. I'll keep looking for it or at least try to find the web site I used. I'll get back to you on this thread.

Here is the site I used to get my wiring harness.
www.suvlights.com
Here is the link for the product I used and slightly modified to fit my needs. Quality product, one for each side and I just bought a connector for the H1 bulbs from a local auto parts store (Kragens here in Reno). This harness is made for the sport conversion, you might call them and they could provide you with the proper connector for the H1 bulb. I was very impressed with the quality of their product.

Thanks Chuck... ... ..... One more question for ya if you don't mind. Why is it necessary to use two harnesses?

I don't know where you got that, but it is not universally true.

I spent 2-1/2 years in Greece and 6 years in Germany and there was no such restriction in either country.

I had heard that some cities in France (Paris) were that way, but I think I also heard that had changed. France also used to require yellow headlights, years ago.

There is a harness for each headlight unit. They wire to each battery, have two relays in each harness and fuse for each side. You unplug the OEM unit and then plug the blue original power fitting into the suvlight harness. Very simple and clean install. Just have to deal with the H1 light problem mentioned earlier and then find a place to mount the relays on the inner fender somewhere. I was changing out all my coolant/turbo hoses at the same time so I had more room than normal to do this.

Heres the basic idea. i dont know if they actually throw enough light to actually see at night. may just be a cosmetic thing...
