When I look at the values in the paper they seem as though gas were still 50/gallon..... I mean has reality hit yet?? What is going on in your neighborhood???

Yep I have been watching the Salem and Portland (Oregon) Craigslist ads and have been suprised at the number of great deals out there. Specially 1-3 year old big toy haulers. I think its the fuel costs but people are also loosing jobs, they cannot refi, food is getting more expensive. Its just adding up for a lot of people. I heard one local big three auto dealer when from selling 120 vehicle a month to about 25, that is scary for the economy.

No, the effects have not sunk in yet, they are still trying to sell used units here for new prices. I did see a couple of older motor homes that were reasonably priced. bg

In my area its rare to see a motorhome thats NOT for sale. Prices will be falling im sure.

I suspect reality will REALLY set in this summer, as payment-strapped owners hit the road, and see what the magic of the open road does to their bank acounts.



This Fall might well produce LOTS of good RV buys for those with the $$$ to buy and actually use them...

... along with custom bikes and sand toys and boats!! Thats what I'm waiting for! Yeah buddy!! Have some nice bikes in the paper that are half or less then what they would 've been a year ago.

Yeah, I'm a little miffed we bought our TT last year. Even though we got a decent deal, if I would have hesitated as normal, we could have fallen into a buyers market. And maybe snagged a toy hauler for cheap? Oh well.



Yup, we have not seen the full impact of $100/bbl oil and $4++ D2, ---yet. Trickle down economics ya know. :{ This year will likely see a buyer's market for all the toys come to bloom. And it will likely drag into next year. Those folks that are mortgaged into the next life with little or no equity, payments on cars AND toys will propel the buyer's market as they lose jobs and are FORCED to sell just to try and keep a roof. Sad but true.

I tried to sell my 06 laredo for less than book and did not get a single call. Guess I get to keep it, but I probably will not be making to many trips this year. I definatly won't be taking it far from home.

5vrs are a dime a dozen around these parts... has been for 6 months now.



It is cheaper (by a long shot) to buy a 5vr than a 18-foot bumper pull, mainly because everyone owns SUVs.

I have noticed that too. You can buy a 38-40' 5th wheel toyhauler for not much more then a 20' bumper pull toyhauler. I have been looking at 1-3 year old 37-40' 5th wheel toy haulers and have been suprised at the low prices.

Yes, I have noticed it myself in the Penney Saver here in So. Cal. I bought my 5ver from one of there adds in 02 and it took me two years to find the model and make I wanted at the price I liked. Now if I was looking, the first two weeks would have worked for me.



The sad part of this, is the fact that people think they will get rid of them by offering to let you take over payments, when they find out its not worth half of what they paid "in a good market". I might take advantage of this next year when I want to buy new. The dealers will have overstocked themselves by that time, and will have great deals with more goodies just to get rid of them. I have been keeping a watchfull eye on the market for a couple of months when I was going too buy now, but have decided to wait just because of this fact.

I hope the Campground owners will realize this also and give us RVer's a break on fees. When I got started in Rving,you could make a spontaneous decision on a Friday evening after work and go camping. Grab the kids ,load up the RV and go. There for awhile,in the tourist traps,you had to make reservations weeks or even months in advance. It is crazy to have to pay almost $50 a night during the summer mos. And absolutely ridiculus for it to be over $30 during the winter. Campgrounds are blaming it on new RV's with Heat pumps and 50A service. Just because you have 50A to use, doesn't mean you are using that much!!Campgrounds..... get your prices down!!

This is the reason we try to stay in state and national parks... reasonable prices.

I have considered that also from now on... It supports the Govt's and our kids need to see more nature instead of the high -priced campground arcades. I just posted a thread here recently on Skyline Dr. and will be leaving next weekend. We are all looking forward to it.

I hear you. I figured it out for this years spring break. It was cheaper (by far)to take the car and stay in a suite with a full kitchen, beautiful courtyard pool and spa, free breakfast everyday, and a maid to clean the room every day (and I have 2 kids:-laf) than it was to drive the truck and rv park it. Its a shame but money is money and when its in the hundreds then the choice becomes easy.

I personally looked for a year for a almost new 5er like what my wife and I wanted... . Finally found one in Portland that the owner wasn't backwards in... . and willing to let go... . it was 18 months old, and brand new... bought it for $9,000 less than he'd paid for it... and the nubs weren't off the tires yet... . and he included some stuff I'd have had to buy..... and it was 15K less than the same thing, brand new on a lot... . so I bought it... .

Haven't tried to sell my old one yet... and have thought about keeping it for a hunting trailer, as my wife won't let the new one off the pavement... .

It was cheaper (by far)to take the car and stay in a suite with a full kitchen, beautiful courtyard pool and spa, free breakfast everyday, and a maid to clean the room every day (and I have 2 kids:-laf) than it was to drive the truck and rv park it. Its a shame but money is money and when its in the hundreds then the choice becomes easy.

I still prefer to take my RV and and sleep in my own bed and shower in my own camper then to stay in a lodge or hotel. We just won't go as far and stay within New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona.

As for prices, I started looking for a larger truck camper with a slide or two, prefer used. What I am finding is dealers VERY anxious to sell new at lowered prices, apparently concerned about getting stuck with them. The people with used ones however are NOT selling, in many cases it seems the price brand new is below what they still owe on theirs!

I agree with grizzly, sleeping in my own bed when I want to is worth any price I can afford.

I also agree. Hotels aren't built where I like to go, and if they were, I wouldn't go there.

I had the same thought but many who are full-time RVers or serious RVers determined to use their rigs will probably just spend more time in the parks, less time traveling so demand for RV spaces may not decline very much. I guess we'll see as we move into the summer months.
