Bought my truck in March of this year and have been bugged by the ding until yesterday. I recently downloaded the body builders wiring diagram which lists the sensor circuit as 'G15 20 VT/TN' The wire runs down the column and is readily accessible by removing the plastic panel under the steering column and above the pedals (two black phillips head screws and two concealed clips).

Readily found the wire and clipped same. Electric door lock button still does not work with engine running which I suppose is a good thing. Taped the sensor end of the wire to prevent inadvertent ground path. Life is good. Can listen to radio or work on truck with door open and key in ignition without the ding. :) :)

A probe on the wire doesn't light up, but it does complete the circuit which causes the ding to operate. I imagine the sensor circuit is the same in other year trucks (mine is an 05) but the wire color may be different. Ten minutes or less.

Seatbelt ding was even easier. Find seatbelt circuit connector under seat. Disconnect, Jumper contacts with a female spade criimp on connector. Done. Truck thinks the seatbelt is fastened all the time. Might even work using an aluminum gum wrapper. Supposed to be a method of disabling the ding by connecting / disconnecting the belt in a certain time frame a number of times with the key on, but I couldn't get it done... ... ..... this is a lot quicker and a whole lot less frustrating.

Maybe someday Dodge will realize just how annoying the ding is to some people and will provide an EASY way to selectively disable it. Not. That'd be like asking for a built-in code reader / eraser.

Gleaned a fair amount of info off this forum. Appreciate it all. Thanks

You can disable the ding. Instructions are in the owner's manual.

Yes, but the ding when the door is open, and key is in the ignition, you can not. I'm all for the ding with the truck "RUNNING". But the ding when the key is in accessory, that's just out right stupid.

If you lock your keys in the car, you deserve it. :)

the seatbelt ding is easy if you have access to a drb, I turned mine off and it sitll reminds you with the seatbelt light but no ding...

Haven't seen anyone here, but I can't stand the people that say, "Well you shouldn't be driving with your seatbelt off anyway. "

Newsflash: Some people use their trucks for real work on a farm and putting on your seatbelt when you're going 5mph around cow patties is just down right stupid and a pain, especially when you're getting in and out constantly to check fences.

Seat belt reminders suck. If people can't remember to put on their seatbelt without a *ding*, then they can and will be eliminated by Darwinian principles... why fight it? :)

It appears, in our politically correct society, that it isn't "fair" if some people are so stupid they can't protect themselves, so society must protect them. History has proved "natural selection" work great. We bend over backwards to save stupid people so they can marry and breed and raise stupid children.

And before the flames start look up the definitions... .

Ignorant means you simply don't know... .

Stupid means you know but won't do... .

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.....

i have tried to turn mine off many times by following the owners manaul & still can't get it off. I agree that seatbelt ding sucks. I drive around 5mph checking water on the farm & have to get in and out a bunch.

I went to the manual and was able to shut off the seatbelt ding. Did that just after the auto door-lock function. Durned, though, if I can find the magic combination that'll shut off that key-in-switch dinger.

What if one were to go to a salvage yard and get and cut the business end of the seal belt as a 'dummy' to plug into the recieving end... would it shut up the systems?... . just a thought.

i turned mine off by clipping the wires at the door inside where the latch is at. the only problem with that is that the truck doesnt know when the door is open. so when you open the door the light isnt turned on and the open door thingy on the dash doesnt light up on the driver door. other than that everything else works just fine especially with no ding. hope this helps

i can look when it stops raining if you guys wanna know what which two wires i cut.

Would it be possible to install a small rocker switch on the door panel in an out of the way spot?

Then you could still have the dome light come on when you want it to?

This gave me a great idea - add a switch in series in that wire!! Then you can have the "DING" to remind you that you've left the key in the ignition, the lights still come on, but you can simply flip the switch to deactivate the "DING" when you don't want to be bothered!!

Plus, you never can have too many switches.

THANKYOU That ding has driven me nuts for a year and a half! I have thought about bypassing wires but did not want to fool the software due to other binefits of the software. The manual clearly stated how to do it (pg43 & 44) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Guys, read the first couple paragraphs of the first post. Looking at the wiring diagram and finding the "key in sensor" wire is not too difficult. I did mine a LONG time ago and don't miss the dinging at all.

If you don't want to hear the seatbelt ding and haven't gotten around to disabling it per instructions in the owners manual, just plug the center seat's seatbelt into the drivers seatbelt latch.
