Truck hates cold weather

My 2500, 02 with automatic runs great in 80 deg. In morning it takes 1/4 mile to warm up at 10 mph then (click) it takes off and runs fine. winters back and its blue smoke and lugging. last winter I put card board in front of left side of radiator, and it runs better. Its like a temperature sencer is swithing on an off. 3 shops tell me its the injector pump. I say its an electric problem, When it like (clicks) on it race's up to 90 fast. Yesterday ran great in Texas, coming north it go worse. today I smoked for 100 mile on I 40 IN 30 degrees. Going south with a 7000 lb trailer the trans temp. never reached 100 deg even climing Mt. Eagle. :( Or were is a good cheap pump etween Nashville Tn and Memphis

Does it get to 180 degrees during the summer? I had troubles with my 92 getting to temp and had replaced the thermostat twice with no luck. But I then put in a Cummins thermostat and the temp rises nicely and the truck runs great. Could be that you also need a good dose of injector cleaner and/or some kerosine to run through the engine. We've got plenty of cold up here in NH and that usually does the trick.

If the engine is getting up to temp, the next thing I would look at is the IAT sensor. It is the intake air temp sensor and if it is bad it could cause the problems you are having. It is located on the drivers side of the engine at the back of the engine.
