Cops...do we need to make changes?

I think there are some laws about driving barefoot. My daughter just left to get a fountain drink at the gas station. Why she always has to have a fountain drink, rather than pouring her pop from a 2 liter bottle is beyond me, but that isn't really what I'm interested in. She asked me why she shouldn't drive barefooted and I didn't have the answer. What do you guys think about it?

Doc

I just finished a 4000+ mile drive up and down the East Coast. I would say 90% of that run was done barefooted. :)

No Problems the whole trip.

I have driven barefoot a few times but mostly its to cold up here to do it much. I will say that I drive in my Tevas lots and in my leather slippers too. Much more comfort...

Doc - I bet your daughter drinks fountain drinks for the improved flavor and better carbonation. Kind of like why a beer on tap tastes better than one from a bottle or can...

It used to be illegal in CA. I have heard that it no longer is.

I can think of a number of safety problems with doing it though: You step out on really hot pavement and burn your feet. ; You get into a acident and you can to walk through stuff that cuts your feet to get away from the vehicle; the list goes on...

There are even occasions where wearing footwear can cause problems: Those beach flip-flops can hang up your foot in the pedals. They used to be popular when I was in college. Having a truck that had a 55/2 A/C in the Central Valley where you can easily get over 100oF during the day and dual exhaust which caused the floor boards to get really warm, I found flip-flops to be very comfortable. ;)

I believe the original reasoning behind making it illegal is no longer relevant. Anybody remember what it was like before power brakes and soft clutch pedals? It required considerably more pressure, especially in a panic situation, which is hard to do with barefeet. Seems like the pedals were more abrasive too, maybe it's just selective memory.

Drive barefoot all the time.

Bare foot better than flops

Had my flip flops on the other day (black ones with flames $1. 95 at W. M) Started the truck, one foot on clutch one on brake. Put the truck and rewind and as soon as I started to let the clutch up my foot just slipped of the clutch. With one foot hard on the brake the clutch just popped up, big clunk, tires chirped and she started backing up:eek: . I managed to hit the clutch and stop before ending up in the street but it freeked me out.

Needless to say when I got flip flops on it's bare feet in the truck.

Lesson Learned

i wear flip-flops to get to and from the vehicle, but drive without them, due to the slip safety reasons stated above... . there's probably a few states or municipalities where that's still a legal violation... . I'm such a rebel

I have seen some fools around here riding motorcycles and mopeds wearing only shorts. No shoes, shirts, eye protection, etc. Saw one girl riding a motorcycle wearing only a bikini... she did have boots on however. Wonder if these people thought about what would happen if they fell?? Severe road rash and they would probably end up naked as well. I don't see nothing wrong with driving an auto or truck barefoot and have done so several times. But always had some type of footwear to put on when I got out.

The only time that I drive with shoes on is when I am at work. They require steel toes. It is kind of hard to kick them off when I am driving. The rest of the time I wear flap sandles and I kick them off the second I get in the truck. I like to wrap my toes around the clutch pedal.

From another idiot

Doc add this to your idiot posts. Back when I was younger-not much through. Now about all I wear is steel toe boots. If I got my way I will be buried in them. :D

These remarks are from another idiot(I did spell it right?)

Whats next Doc?

Now I see the spell check has been added. O well.

When I get done hunting the first thing I do is take off my heavy, wet, mud-crusted boots and slip into a set of sheepskin lined slippers to drive home in. I like the ones that have the rubber sole as they last a lot longer than the ones with only the thin leather sole.

I read some where that bare feet can sometimes help keep you awake for those long drives. I drive barefoot on long trips 'cause I like it, If I'm tired I stop and sleep!
