Competition carbon steel header???

Today I had the luck of having a new 2003 Corvette try to cut me off and leave me in the dust. I gave him all it was worth, not giving an inch to this guy. I was traveling down the road at about 55 when I saw him come up from behind. He was weaving in and out of traffic when he came up on my rear bumper ( at this point I was up to 5x5) and I gave him a little puff of smoke. I was at the lead of a pack of traffic and he thought he could blaze past me between a big rig and my front bumper..... WRONG! I nailed it and he sucked in behind me real tight. As we cleared the truck next to me he shot around. Right about then I was going into overdrive and I walked away from him up to about 105 mph. We pulled real even up to 115 but he never got a bumper on me. Ya should have seen his face when I looked over:confused:  #@$%! . I was all smiles when he looked at me. I had hit the wall of speed and let off. At the next light, about two miles ahead, we lined up for a drag race. I pulled it into 4x4 hi, and powerbraked up to 20 psi. When the light turned green I left him sitting there... . :--) Just thought you should hear this.

Wanna really **** a Vette owner off? Do that to a Z06... ... ...

He wasn't too happy... ... not my fault he can't get traction on the street ;)

I had the same kind of fun with a 5. 0 mustang, I love that "what the f**k" look on their face at the next light :--) :D :D

He(( Yeah!! Out of curiousity I wonder what a new corvette would run in the quarter mile. I also wonder about the vipers. I heard the vipers weren't that fast.

Most of the new non Z06 model Vette's around my area run from 13. 30 to 13. 60s. New model Vipers run 12. 10 to 12. 30 depending on the drivers ability. A Z06 Vette will run 12. 70 to 13. 00 again depending on driver ability. The older Vipers were good for 12. 60 to 13. 00s with the old heavy style engine. Mustangs with the standard engine will just barely hit the mid 14s with a good driver. The Cobra's will run 13. 80s or at least the ones I watched did. Which is also what most of the LS1 Camaro's and TA's run stock. I had a 96 Impala SS that had been reprogrammed, new air intake and aftermarket exhaust. It was good for 14. 30s all day with the stock 3. 08 gears. It would have easily ran 13s with a gear change and a better torque converter. Of course my Dad's 87 Buick T-Type with the same mods ran low 12s and now runs in the 11s without ever pulling the valve covers off the engine. You just have to love anything with a Turbo.

My numbers are a little lower

I have a 2000 Ram Air Trans am and have run a best of a 13. 4 @ 106 mph in less than perfect weather. The newer Z06 is easily capable of a lower 12 (12. 3-12. 5) and a Viper can dip into the High 11s with a good driver. Of course, just adding some bolt ons to those cars will gain 50-75 hp in now time and easily shave 1/2 sec off those times. Most heads/cam LS1s (Camaros, TransAms and Vettes) run in the mid to low 11s @ over 120 mph. I hear that the new cobras are running a high 12 off the showroom floor, but the older models are high 13 sec cars or worse.

The times I listed are what I see at the track every weekend when I'm running my bracket car. I was also at the Corvette Homecoming in Bowling Green and never saw a PURE stock Z06 go quicker than a 12. 73. I was down there during the Sport truck shootout as well and had the privelege of watching a black quad cab Dodge Dually 4x4 run a 13. 44 against my friends 13. 55 in his powerdyne ( blower ) equipped 2002 Chevy short wide bed with the 5300 engine. My friend was just far enough back that the 5 inch pipe on the dually was fogging his window pretty hard. He had to look out the passenger side of his truck to see the finish line. LOL All Hillis had to say was :--)

It is pictured on the webpage as is my friends shortbed. We have a friendly get together at Gateway every year with the Viper club, Mustang club, Impala group and the Buick club which I belong to. There was a yellow Hennessey Viper there that ran 11. 57 at 123 on slicks. He was impressive. Had to belong to a farmer as he hauls it in on a ratty looking farm trailer. I should be at the Fun Ford Weekend next year at Gateway as a friend of mine is an engine builder for the pro 5. 0 class. I'll keep an eye out for any pure stock 12 second Phords.

I read in a Magazine that the '03 Viper SRT-10 (already all pre-sold) went from 0-100mph & back down to 0mph in 14. 2 seconds.

That's INSANE!

A friend of mine has an 03 Cobra with a smaller blower pulley, Headers, and a Chip went 11. 65@118 on some ET streets. Just barely over $1000 in mods to the car WOW. I don't see many vipers run around here but our track owner made a pass in a 98 GTS that someone brought out there and went an 11. 85 on his second run(track owner profesional roadracer/dragracer). I have seen Z06s running around 12. 50s and 60s at 113-115 mph. . traction big issue. Late Model Muscle Rules :D.

It looks like it would be pretty tough for that truck of yours to hang with an 03 vette??? I know and have driven a truck here in Tulsa that put down 552/1200+ and it got smoked by a 96 LT4 corvette that was bone stock. The Best I have driven the vette to was a 13. 05@109 and the truck I have driven to a 13. 76@97. Just seems fishy :D

While on this subject , my 87 Grand National runs mid 10's . Guy's we should'nt get too carried away , I don't think i'd try to race a new corvette or viper on the highway with my truck. :D

I had a 2002 Z06 all the way to 1000'. He couldnt drive. I had him by a half second at the 1/8th. He got me by . 3 at the 1/4. He was ******, he didnt even stop at the ticket booth. He drove out the exit and left. Still had the temp tags on it. I bet the went back to the dealer and tried to return it because some redneck in a muddy DIESEL farm truck all but outran him.

Those cars may have it on some of us in the 1/4, but just barely. Most of the racing you're talking about here, is on the freeway... I've out-run everything from sport bikes to Vettes, in beating them to a hole in traffic. With twin turbos, or even a PDR Hx40, or a B1, your top end response is flat out crazy. Oo.

For the record, I like and own fast two wheel toys and I've never cut one off, or came close to it. And I've aways had a thumbs up from them after racing. :D Not the fiberglass boys, though. They wave a finger other than a thumb at me. :D

I also accidentally raced a state trooper, it was night, I've got tinted windows, and he'd been riding my bumper for 8 miles(I hate that) before swinging out to pass me.  The funny thing was, I was pulling away from him, as he came alongside. :D No idea he was a trooper, till he fell back real fast and hit the blue lights!

He could hardly keep a straight face while talking sense to me. The best part? He has a Cummins Ram, and he's now a customer. :D

Hmmm, ever race a crazy cummins guy with a a new corvette, . . swing on by Riverdale, this one puts the power to the ground, ... problem is most corvette guys just don't know how to drive. If the vette doesn't do it, there a 30 ford coupe in the garage with 12. 5 cheater slicks. Gotta have a back up ya know;) ... lol

My '98 Camaro SS (6 spd) ran a 13. 38 @ 105. 5 bone stock, down to the paper air filter. After a few boltons it went 12. 92 once, and was consistently in the 13. 00-13. 15 range on street tires. Some longtube headers and a mild heads/cam package then netted me 12. 63@112. 8, again on street tires (never was interested in installing a 10 bolt in the rear;)).

I have once witness a '99 Viper GTS run several consecutive 14-second passes (albeit at 112mph+)... And then when the keys were handed to a more experienced driver it clicked off a 12. 1-something... Just goes to show how a car is only as fast as it's driver... On that note I thought I would add that when my SS had just the first boltons I dyno'd 318hp/327tq, but I would consistently outrun my buddy's Z28 making 345hp/350tq... He was the first to admit he couldn't drive worth a darn.
