the windshield on the wife's car has decided to go hazy during rainstorms at night. The wipers are working, but after a wiper pass, there is a haze, that reminds me of a RainX'd windshield in fog. Oncoming traffic, and streetlights are basically whiteing out the road. Its getting very dangerous! Its almost better to just not use the wipers and let the water 'sheet'. The haze is not visible during a daytime rain, only at night.

The only thing i can think of is going thru one of those automatic car washes at a gas station she somehow managed to get some 'wax' on it. I have tried everything to clean it off, ammonia, vinager, windex, dawn dish soap, copious amounts of elbow grease. Nothing makes a difference. The wipers seem to be in good shape, so I dont think its that, even tho they are 20k old. Could I RainX it even tho its already doing this and 'cover up' the problem?

Any thoughts on whats causing this, or how to resolve it?

Go to a local body shop supply company and get a 7 oz jar of 3M "Perfect-It III Cleaner Clay" (Part N051131-38070), and a 4 oz bottle of 3M "perfect-It Gloss Enhancer (Part # 051131-39434). Total cost for both is less than $15. 00.

Step One. clean major dirt of windshield with Windex.

Step Two. Spray gloss enhancer on half of windshield and then rub cleaner clay on it.

Step Three. Rinse and clean.

Repeat other half.

It is designed to safely remove overspray and contaminates on paint glass and chrome. It is also great for taking small scratches from the windshield. Once complete and along with a new set of wiper blades, you will think your in a brand new truck. (at least as far as the glass is concerned)

This will work but you'll hate it! Rub GASOLINE on to the glass (works best bare-handed) then, while the gas IS STILL WET (important!) rub glass cleaner into the mess you already made. The gas will cut the Rain-X, Armor-All, silicone, or whatever and the glass cleaner will cut the gas IF you rub it in good. (You had to ask!) #ad

My Grandfather alwasy swore by an onion, cut the onion in half and rub it on the glass. . wipe it off with newspaper and it should be ready to go. I have never tried it by gramps was always right.
I would try the rain-x, it cleans almost any goop or crud off the window. I once got a bad batch of WIndex and it would leave a nasty white film on the window, rain-x took this right off... Hope this helps.

use rainx window polish first then rain x it
the polish cleans off everything on the windshield, it is a true glass polish with some grit, and it doesnt hurt the windshield, the only windshields you cant use it on are plastic laminated such as older cadillacs 85-about94 work fine for the ram

Lacquer thinner works fantastic on windows. Amazing how much road grime and anything else it will remove.

OooH baby does lacquer thinner work! BE CAREFUL around your shiny paint though. I've had good results using vinegar and water, dried off with newspaper. Use a bit of isopropyl alcohol to remove the grime from the wiper blades.

Keep the shiny side up!

I use a product called 20/10 that I find works really well. Squirt it undiluted on to the windshield and turn on the wipers. One other trick whatever you use make sure you realy clean the wiper blades or else the blades will recoat your windshield

Clean the wiper blades off with 800-900 grit sandpaper after you do the voodoo tricks listed above to the glass. You will easily double the life of the blades this way.

My dad was a trucker and always had a small bag of Bull Durham hanging from a knob on the dash. He said the juice in it would cut anything you could get on a windshield. Just wet the bag and rub it on the windshield.
