Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Truck immediately dies

Reading my manual says to torque to 66 ft lbs and then 90° . I found info from a Commins manual that say to torque the long bolts to a difffrent torque than the short bolts?? Anybody got any info on this thanks shaun
 
Thanks for the replies and everybody's help I'm just scared to death I'm going to get this together and its still going to leak. I just hate working on trucks anymore don't get any thing out of it other than pita and I guess knowing that when I get done 50 more things won't go wrong because of a a crappy crooked shop

As long as the head surface is good and no twist or warpage it's a done deal
 
As I have posted before, finish scrape with a single edge razor blade in a holder, until perfect, not just "good enough." Mop out all head bolt holes or when they go in, the bolts will squeeze the crud out onto the deck surface. Use a real straightedge and be sure there aren't any low spots, using a .002" feeler gauge especially at the back, between cylinders, and near the thermostat housing.

Good times isn't it. I've got two trucks stripped right now. No trannies in them either.

By all means, run the correct tap into each threaded hole. After that, put a small suction hose onto your shop vac and thoroughly clean each hole. A few shots of brake clean into the hole before sucking will assure a good hole. Running a tap through deletes the need for any bolt thread lube.
