Variable speed wiper issue

I have a 04 2500 with 230,000 miles. My problem is the fan for heater / ac won't come on unless I move the tilt steering up and down. Once the fan comes on it won't shut off when key is turned to off.

Anyone else have this happen or tips on fixing

Thanks

The fan motor and fan switch unfortunately runs directly through the ignition switch with no relay.

First, immediately stop using the fan as it sounds like you have a breaking or broken wire and thus a potential dead short and vehicle fire !!!

Then if you are a mechanically and electrically inclined, you should be able to disconnect the battery and remove the shroud around the steering wheel in order to inspect the switch and wiring more closely to see what need repairing or replacing.

I am sure that someone here may well be able to chime in with exactly what color wire you are looking for,

Bean there done that...

Check the connection to the ignition switch, very likely you'll find burnt out connection there. It's on the left hand side of the steering wheel though.

Replace the electric part of the ignition switch, the Fan and the Resistor as they all play together in this problem. The full electric runs through the ignition switch and as the Fan ages it takes more and more Amps that finally burns out the switch.

You might need a repair harness to that is still available through Ram.

replaced the heater fan motor, resistor and the ignition switch. Then I started to think about the burnt connectors on the the ignition switch. Will it need to be replaced?! That is an awful lot of wires to splice. AutoZone has one and it costs more than the ignition switch.
Thanks
