Folks,

I'm hearing a high pitched intermitent squeek coming from the blower motor. It lasts for a couple minutes and stops. If I turn the fan up to full, it seems to stop it. I also get a hint of a heated metal smell... sounds like bushings to me. 15K miles on the Ram.

But in any case it'll be a difficult diagnosis... and I realize the dealership will most likely have to remove most of the dash to get at it.

Before I begin playing the Dealership run around... has anyone heard this or had it corrected?

Thanks,

Tagalong

I had a (sort o... ) similar problem. I dropped the glove box and looked around behind the dash with the aid of a Maglight and found a bit of polystyrene packaging ( the size of a golfball) that got left in by mistake by the factory ( I guess ). It was driving me crazy. The blower works okay without the extra ballast;) might be worth a quick check yourself. Mine has got similar mileage also FYI.

Excellent suggestion John! I'll gladly check out what's behind the glove box before I head to the dealership! I wondered if something might be caught at or near the motor. I'll give it a look see over the weekend.

Check for leaves. As the leaves fall they like to get in the darndest places

I've pulled mine apart to get at them before :(

Good luck

Thanks for your replies. You bet I'm going to check out all your suggestions before I take the Ram to anyone! You'd think the designers could come up with a better way to seal off dirt and debris!

Once again thanks,

You don't have to take out most of the dash to get to it. Unless something drastic has changed, there are three screws that hold the motor in. All are accessible from the bottom. Mine had a piece of pine straw that made its way into the blade area. Took about ten minutes to drop and reinstall the motor.
