2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Blower motor thinks for itself?

Hey guys,



My AC blower motor has decided to have a mind of it's own. From time to time, for no reason it stop's blowing. After a few minutes of being mad at it... it starts blowing again! :-{}



Seems to do this most often when I restart the truck. . some time?



Driven me nutz. It this the actual blower or is it the switch in the dash?

If it were me I would drop the motor out of the housing on the right side of the dash. I think its held in by three screws. Check the plug for corrosion and look up in the housing with a light could be all kinds of crap in there .

When mine did that it was the motor, when it not working right try hitting it to see if it will start.

What happen to me was the box (I think it is a resistor) located to the left of the blower where the electrical connector attaches was burnt. Easy fix, disconnect the connector and two screws and it drops out. If the cermanic is broken, I would go ahead and pull the motor to clean it. The box is available at most auto stores.

I would pull the blower motor and bench test it... you describe what could be brushes not making reliable contact or an armature that is hanging. If the latter you will eventually roast the blower speed resistor to a nice golden brown. These resistors are placed in the cold hvac induction stream for a reason. ANYTIME your blower is powered, not on high, and not up to proper speed (or stalled) the temp in that resistor block soars! (high speed is direct feed and bypasses the tap resistor).

its probably the blower motor... mine would be going, and seize up, making a crazy screeching sound and it would scare the heck out of you when you werent expecting it!!! they are cheap to replace, and I am glad I did mine. . now I just wish the shop that has my truck would hurry up and get it back to me... I miss blowing smoke. .

I had the same issue. pull the resistor out right beside the blower motor. (2 screws) if you see it corroided at all change it. its only about $60.
