i've got a Smith & Wesson 1911 that i bought a few months ago and that thing fits my hand perfectly. from what i understand, smith & wesson makes the frames for kimber's handguns. the smith i have sure shoots nice. couldn't believe how accurate it is at 30 or 40 yds. how does it compare to the H&K?

I have not shot the S&W 1911 but I got to handle one recently and it seems like the best 1911 for the money right now IMO.

Kimber is currently having some quality issues with their MIM(Metal Injection Molded) parts but their slide, frame, barrel fit is second to none for a high production gun. 1911 Forum is a good site for more info on 1911's.

As for a pistol though, I was looking at Sigs. The H&K sounds sweet but those are a little expensive for my first handgun.

Sigs aren't cheap either... .

Yup! I own a P7M10 (. 40 S&W squeeze-cocker). Best handgun made!

Sure Sigs are not cheap, but do you want a cheap gun or a good gun. spend some money and buy a good gun the first time around. Sig, H&K, Glock, nice 1911's, what ever you choose, but choose right the first time and you will save $$$ in the long run.



Heck this is my first Diesel, I chose the best and have been very happy. In the long run I will have saved money over the Ford or Chevy; oh wait I did save money on the initial price and I will also save in the long run.



Do things right the first time so you d o not need to come back and do it again!

One good handgun out there in the under $500 range is the Springfield Armory XD line of pistols. Nice shooting guns in all the sizes. (3", 4", and 5' barrels) I own a 5" 9mm Tactical model in OD Green and it will shoot right with my Kimber and my new H&K. I wouldn't be afraid at all to trust my life to an XD.



Just a thought if you're looking for a nice inexpensive reliable pistol.
