Friday night coming home from the monster truck show, it was of course dark and my truck started it's heater grid cycling thing(I thought) my helpful wife said she thinks it is the head lights flashing, so of course I listened to what she said and pulled up close to the truck in front of me, which was a CTD, sorry if you are on here. So I gave it some pedal, which I think has something to do with it, and the lights started flashing, looking at the tailgate of the truck in front of me bigger than s*** one headlight was going off and on, it would go all the way out then I would give it to it again and it would flash alittle and come back on. Over and over I did this, it isn't road sensitive, as in bumpy road, it seemed to be just realated to pushing on the throttle. So sat I changed the bulb, everything looks ok? Sunday I hook on to the trailer, I all but couldn't get it to buck, it was still there but not near as bad. Made me think maybe I have a ground problem but after reading the above posts and thinking about it I guess it was about 15-20 or maybe 25 degrees warmer than the last month or so, so now I don't know.

I did still take it in to the dealer yesterday and had him look at it, he changed out the IAT just to be sure. He thinks our problem is somehow related to fuel psi, But with the injecters he kind of shyed away from helping with that oh-well.

More info from the ISB bible....

Some of you guys were saying your grid heaters cycle at times when they should long since be off? Reading through the ISB Fuel System book some more today revealed that the ECM decides to cycle them from readings from a pair of sensors-the Intake Air Temp one and a Fuel Temperature Sensor located in the VP44 itself..... Apparently you need INSITE or something similar to read what this little puppy is doing... . anybody know if you can read its value with a generic scan tool?

Unfortunately it's not serviced separately (what a crappy design  )-but it may be somewhere else to look?

I'm still going through this thing trying to figure out what I can add to this discussion-if I find some more nuggets in here I'll post them-or if you have something specific you want me to look for ask away!

No help at the dealer.

Well, took mine to the dealer today. I took it in to get the console box replaced - AGAIN. So, of course it's running perfectly now. But the service manager went for a ride with me anyway while I described the problem. He said they would scan it for codes - about all they could do since it wasn't doing it anymore. So I call later to check on it. I get the parts guy (service manager is at a funeral). Parts guy says the console box was replaced. I asked him if they found anything on the stumble problem. He says he doesn't know.

So I go pick it up. No paper work - don't know where it is. So I find the tech I described the problem, to (the same guy who was going to work on it and actually drove it into the shop this morning). I ask him if he found anything. "Oh... . I didn't work on it - Jimmy did. " So I find Jimmy. After I ask how he got out of high school today, I ask him about the truck. He says he replaced the console box. "And... ... did you scan it?", I ask. "Um... . no... . um... . I didn't know what the service manager wanted me to do. " LOL I just said thanks and left. Man oh man. I do think they would have followed through if the service manager had been around.

Oh well, sorry I don't have anything to tell you guys that will help at this point. I guess until mine acts up again, there's nothing happening here.

Just an update, the hesitation/bucking/shudder is gone! I got a new BD PNP2 under warrenty ( thanks BD ) which fixed the problem. I've had it in for about two weeks now and I haven't had a problem yet. Maybe it is the obvious, the box.

I wish mine was that easy, I got a new EZ from Edge the first part of the month, no luck for me. However mine was all but gone yesterday as the temps were in the 45-50 deg range, in my case I think it is defenitly temp related.

Does anyone know if there is a fuel heater of some kind? A buddy of mine that works on buses had that idea, I guess they have them.

Is it possible that some of you guys are confusing one problem with another? What I mean is that my truck ran fine stock. Immediately after installing the Banks, occasionally I would get a "stumble". It felt like someone had turned the key off for just an instant. Since I added injectors and the TTPM, I don't have this problem anymore unless I'm towing. On a recent trip towing to Calif. and back, it would stumble at least once a day and some days twice. This would happen whether I was on flat interstate or climbing a long grade. Anyway, I have never had the shudder that most of you are referring to but I wonder if some of you have a problem that is more like what I'm experiencing.

Phil

I've been trying the type of fuel idea. When I filled up with 45 cetane fuel the shudder seemed to get better. I then filled up with regular fuel 40-42 cetane and the shudder seemed worse again. I then dumped alot of Howes diesel treat in the tank and the shudder is gone . I'm beginning to think it has something to do with winterized fuel. Just kicking out one more idea. That would also explain why this problem just surfaced a few months ago.

I've been having the same hesitation/miss for about 2 months now. I really started to notice it when i bought my EZ, so we replaced my OEM pump for the fourth time and got my fuel pressure back to where it should be and it went away for about a day. Then the darn thing started acting up again, well I traded my EZ in for a Comp and it was still there. Like some have stated above, I can turn my sub-level down to 1 run it on level 5 and it's not there. So i agree that it has to do somthing with the MAP sensor b/c my OEM pump shouldn't have crapped it self in just one or two days. So last night I took my MAP sensor out and cleaned it and put my little fitting on the MAP sensor that came with my JVD to keep it from de-fueling and I took it out and ran it on 5x5 and the hesitation/miss has quit so far. I havent ran it long enough to see if it's gonna work permanently or not but it seems to run a heck of a lot stronger now and it smooth as can be. Hope this helps.

Can you tell us a little more about this map sensor fitting that you have. Does it plug into the map sensor plug or fit on the other end. I'm not understanding how that one works.

Basically it goes on the end of the MAP sensor fitting, it just threads on. JVD is now using was they call an A. D. D (anti-defueling device) it works in the same fashion as the fitting that they used to use but only it allows it to fuel more. It works extremely well with injectors as well as other boxes out there. Hope this helps

Yea, they sell the A. D. D seperatley but they do reccomend it with their Torque Enhancer. Their number is (877)948-4050, I'd say u'll either talk with Van Haisely himself or his wife Patty whichever one will deffinatlely help with all that you need. At first when i just had my JVD on my truck I really didnt think it allowed that much more fuel to go thru but I took it off and put my little fitting back on so that we could put the ADD on a buddy of mines HO and I could tell then how much it helped. The jury is still out on whether this is gonna help my truck from totally cutting out or not but i'll be sure and let u guys know as soon as I run it some more this weekend after getting my small fuel leak fixed, but so far so good. Take care!

I did a search on AIT senser and this came up, my shudder problem went away with the warm temps of summer, did every one eleses do the same?

Yep, mine did too. Hauled a big load of hay 600mi. (same as this winter when I first noticed the shudder) just a few weeks ago, and NO hitch in my trucks getalong. Ran great.

The cold weather related problem was my first impression, but no one could find a correlation (funny how this topic disappeared in the Summer months). Seems some have narrowed it down to MAP sensor connection needing dielectric grease (just gave mine a shot today).

Guess we'll be at it again this Winter tryin' to figure it out

mine has got the shudders and it is over 80 degrees. so much for the temperature theory. picked up the shudder after the pulse box and most when towing. is the map sensor the one recommended to pull out and clean? any help... . thanks

wondering if anyone has figured out anything more or just living with it? mine still shudders and it is not any of the conections or fuel or box or so on .
