Stock 5. 9L (other than gauges, Mag Hytec trans pan, and PSM air intake - see sig). Got a brand new Smarty Jr on Friday and installed Program 2 (Towing) with default settings. Followed directions and everything seemed fine. Sat morning I started it and got the WIF light and DTC (P2269). I was at half tank, having filled up earlier in the week and driven too and from work (to include picking up my trailer) with no probs. I shut engine off and used the Smarty Jr to revert back to Stock programming but WIF light stayed on. I changed the primary and secondary fuel filters (I have the Mopar Severe Duty Fuel Filter kit with 2nd WIF sensor) and checked the fuel I drained for water and there did not seem to be any whatsoever - light stayed on. I tried clearing the code with the Smarty Jr but light stayed on. I am freaking out as I am leaving today (in a couple of hours) for a camping trip and pulling my travel trailer. I suspect it is a sensor issue, or that there is something to do with the extra (2nd) WIF sensor on the Severe Duty Filter (I saw something about ECU voltage or something in another forum).

I reinstalled program 2 (towing) with default settings and took the truck for a drive. Seems to work perfectly. I got back and disconnected both batteries for 30 mins and reconnected. WIF stays on.

Any insight? I do not have the the tools or skill to test the sensors themselves. Could it be battery related (orig batteries on truck, 84K miles on truck)? Is there an easy way to check the sensors if you are not very electrically astute?

Help!

Did you just fuel up prior to this happening? Check the connections on the WIF to make sure they are tight and corrosion free. Also drain some fuel out into some type of clear container to inpect the fuel for contamination, it will be hard to judge by simply draining it out the canister.

Some water could of got in the wiring (sometimes exposed where it connects to WIF sensor). Spray WIF connector(S) and wiring at base of WIF sensor(s) with electric contact cleaner that dries.

If you think it is the batteries have them load tested.

No, fuelled up on Mon. I will try the clear container, but it doesn't make sense that I could go almost a week, then all of a sudden get the wif. It has been really wet here. Will try contact cleaner. Getting new batteries just to remove that variable.

WD-40 is water displacing try that

I got new batteries installed, used contact cleaner, and drained the fuel filter into a clear glass. No change to the WIF light, but I can tell you the fuel is pristine - no water at all. I will take it in when I get back. I am sure it is not the fuel at this point. I wonder if when I got the Mopar Severe Duty filter installed and they enabled the 2nd WIF sensor, the Smarty does something... I send MADS and email. I will try reprogramming back to stock once I get to the campsite. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the ideas. Any more, send 'em. Hopefully the campsite has wifi.

disconnect the sensor,if the light goes out you got a bad sensor,if it doesent you have wiring orcomputer problems

First, I am back from a 500 mi round trip thru the CO Mountains and the truck ran perfectly. Love the towing setting on the Smarty. Very noticeable in the midrange.

As far as the WIF, it stayed on the entire trip, and is still on. Last Sat I did disconnect the sensors and the light went out. So I am sure it is a sensor and I will order one from Genos and replace this week. Will report back.

Thanks for all the help.

9/613 Update

I had it at the dealer for 2 days. They tested and checked and checked and tested. Finally the decided it was the aux WIF sensor that needed to be replaced. They did so but there was no change. WIF still on. They then traced all the wires, and cleaned all the contacts. All sensor test out as being fine. No change - WIF light still on. I have to take it back so they can dig around some more.

Logically, I have to believe it is something to do with the Smarty doing something to the PCM. I came across a post by AH64ID in another forum regarding the aux WIF sensor and sent him a PM. I also sent an update to MADS. Will let you know what I hear back.

Sorry I missed this thread until your PM.

It's the Smarty, I ran into the same issue. Both the Smarty tune and tune Smarty uses for stock have it disabled.

As of today there is no way to have both sensors working and use a Smarty. You need to disconnect the 2nd WIF sensor and place the OEM sensor back in the OEM bowl on the engine.

I would also email MADS and ask them to offer a software that has the 2nd WIF sensor option enabled, B20 Option. I have done this, but think I am the only one. Marco (Smarty Founder) said he would/could do it a couple years back but there isn't much of a demand for it.

Thanks. MADS told me there was no way it was the Smarty but I figured that logically it had to be! I emailed them back and asked for an update. Maybe if we could get more folks from the TDR to spread the word and bug Smarty, we will get a fix. I am ****** 'cause I changed perfectly good filters and am gonna now have to pay for dealer diagnostic work. Dang it.

Sept 25, 2013 Update

Got this reply from MADS regarding a patch for the SDFK Aux WIF sensor fix:

I do not have any kind of time frame for you unfortunately. I believe that when we do release the compatibility with the second WIF, you shouldn't need the dealer to enable it. It would work much like our high idle feature!

In the meantime, I have a new, pre-SDFK WIF sensor (main) coming tomorrow. Will update once I install it.

Installed the new sensor (orig wif sensor, pre-SDFK update) and works fine. Thanks for the help, AH64ID! Once MADS comes out with an update, I will put the SDFK wif sensor back in and have both again.
