Help - Blue haze out exhaust at idle

Just yesterday I noticed a blue haze coming from my exhaust while at idle and that the exhaust smell was noticeably different than usual. I could also hear some inconsistent pulsating noise coming from the exhaust but I could not hear a similar noise from the engine compartment. I pulled my intake tube from my HT turbo and did not notice any oil on the impeller. The impeller had some normal up/down play but no push/pull play. In other words, everything looked normal. Dip stick shows clean oil with no unusual consumption. Truck runs strong and gauges seem normal. Any ideas what could be wrong? I'm still thinking that it is the turbo but that I noticed it early and therefore haven't given the oil sufficient time to produce itself on the intake side yet. Maybe continue driving and check it in a couple of days? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Chris

I had an SPS62 lose a thrust bushing. It displayed very little axial play, and did not allow oil into the compressor/intake side until the very end, then it was a mess.

Pull the oil fill cap while idling to check for excessive blowby, and to see if you can hear those unusual exhaust sounds emitting from it. Hopefully you do not have a broken ring, or possibly a dropped valve seat. If no excessive blowby, you could pull the downpipe to inspect the turbine side of turbo, if not watch for oil dripping from your tailpipe.

Keep an eye on your oil level, and be very quick to shut it down if symptoms increase, let us know.

If the exhaust burns your eyes, you most likely have an injector not spraying properly. If it doesn't, then it could be lube oil burning.

Dip stick shows clean oil

Not sure how this is possible. I do an oil change and the fresh oil is black within a few miles.

Anyway :

What does the exhaust now smell like ? Are you adding any 2 stroke oil to your fuel, where maybe you added too much to this tank ?

Just changed my oil so by 'clean' I mean not black.

Dropped my down pipe and no oil on the exhaust side of the turbo. No noticeable blowby from the oil cap.

<2-stroke oil> Yes. I've been running 2-stroke oil in almost every tank for a couple of years but have not noticed the smoke before. Also, I have not put any oil in the tank since my last fill up the other day.

I may take it to a mechanic as I don't want to assume it's the turbo and fork out $2k if that wasn't it.

Have a cylinder contribution test done and see what it says. Sounds very much like you have an injector not seating completely.

Update

Valve inspection and compression test came up negative. All looks good in that regard. Mechanic says it's probably an injector since he can smell fuel in the exhaust. So the good news is that it's not rings or valve related. The bad news is that injectors can cost almost half of what a rebuilt costs. He's suggesting testing each injector and replacing only the bad ones. I'm thinking that since it is apart, all injectors should be replaced. I had DDP Stage I's and he's recommending replacing with stock Bosch. May go that route since I don't have the time to wait for F1s.

Question - Would there be a noticable difference in performance between stock replacement Bosch injectors and 40 hp F1s? To be honest, I did not notice a performance difference when going from my stock injectors to the DDPs, except for maybe slightly higher EGTs.

Thanks

Like I said before run a cylinder contribution test to se if you have more than 1 injector messed up. That way at least you know what our in for.

Depends on how you drive and what oyu do whther you can feel the difference. You might see it at fuel pump with a good set of 50 HP tips and balanced injectors.

New injectors installed and no more haze. Truck appears to run stronger than it did with the DDP stage I injectors, if that is possible.
