today i went to get my truck emmisioned. since last year i have done all my mods. #5 plate, strait piped, no waste gate and star weel turned out a bit. i went in today knowing that i smoked a bit so i turned down the star weel a little bit and took of the boost signal to the injector pump. it still read 47% on the meter. the limit in maricopa county in az is 40%. can i do any thing besides take out the fuel plate? btw this weekend im getting the timing bumped up and the valves done will this make it worse or better?

slide the plate all the way back and you can slide the afc housing all the way back and that will cut down on the fuel a lot. (shouldn't smoke any)

i tried looking for my stock one and i cant find it. has anyone in az had this problem? another ? wher can i get my timing and valves done in the western part of the vally?

So its true!!? Diesel emissions testing is here!!!?? I think ill un-plug my MAP sensor to kick the ol 24 valve into limp mode :-laf :-laf Show them suckers :D

Arizona has been emission testing diesels for years. Just a FYI. Watch out as it may be your state next.

Well he did say that he unhooked the boost line to the AFC housing. If he did that the thing should have less power than stock!

My truck dynoed at 325 with 370's, 0 plate, BHAF and exhaust. I flipped the valet switch and got 180hp.

I'd definatly get the timing checked. I've seen the timing slip down to around 10 degrees and cause all sorts of problems.

Sorry I missed that during my first reading.

here in az its every year so it pry would be somthing to do. now after i went through everything seemed fine then they looked at my catalatic converter. fine. then they looked under the hood he sat ther and looked at my pump forever and then had someone else look at it. do you think they can change the numbers in computor after i took it? because they might have saw that i disconected the boost signal? they didnt say anything but sure took intrest in my pump! has any one herd of a good mecanic in az?

In Washington State they do a snap test. They want the driver to mash the throttle. This creates a high fuel, low boost which helps create smoke. In addition to sliding the plate all the way back don't hit the throttle as much as they'd like. This helps build a high boost, low fuel which means little to no smoke.

Be kind of funny to get a 12 valve with some cut DVs to honestly do that Washington test :-laf ya know, just to jack with em :-laf

gutted afc, 370s, dv's, no plate and a clogged air filter, that would get their attention :-laf

I know the 12 Valve's are a totally different animal but when I added my FASS to my 3rd gen almost all of my smoke went away.

oh yeah fass aint gonna do much good in this case.

Why do you think it made smoke go away on your 3G?

When the FASS came out one of the arguments for the product was it removed the air out of the fuel. The air added turbulence and took up space that could've been fuel. Air free was supposed to make a diesel engine more efficient and quieter. Can't vouch for this and that's probably another topic anyways.

thx for all the response im going to just take out the plate for now and put the stock one back in for the test. if anyone knows wher i can get the timing done in the phoenix area pm me thx

Some years ago when reading an Arizona newspaper, it warned motorists to make sure that their smogged vehicle was in compliance, as the emissions people were using a device on the side of the highway, that was able to read the exhaust, just as easy as the police could record a vehicle's speed when traveling on the highway. Even in California I have not even heard of such a device, and in general California is very strict on emmision requirements. Not sure how much a dead or lost cat was worth, but I'd hate to find out, out of my own pocket, and perhaps a cat or lack off is the easiest to detect

i saw a show years ago about a guy that was trying to develope a roadside drive by detector to catch the rolling clouds
