After the last few weeks of trying to diagnose a sudden drop in fuel mileage, I found seepage in between the Injection pump and the gear case, today. Do any of you think that this could be where my mileage went? It does not seem to be enough to make a drip, at least not when engine is just luke warm, but when wiped off, it takes only about 10 seconds to get wet again. I am thinking that maybe when the engine is warmed up, and the fuel also, maybe it seeps much faster, but dries off right away. Is the only way to fix this is to get a new pump? Can this pump be resealed? Or would it not be worth it with 170,000 miles on it? Someone with more knowledge on these pumps please help.

First thing I would check is the high pressure line fitting. Make sure it's tight. Mine was seeping there. Snugged it up and the pump has remained dry.

Thanks Brain, but it does not appear to be coming from the fitting. It appears to be coming from between the gear case and the pump. I have installed pics, but cannot see the fuel in them. Maybe I should fill fuel tank with red fuel and take more pics, eh!!!!! :-laf :-laf . I do not know how some people put those arrows on their pics, or I could have pointed the leak out better.

I had one that was replace under warranty that was leaking between the pump and the gear case. I'm sure that if it was something the tech just had to tighten to make it stop leaking, he would have done it. They had to replace the pump. I didn't notice a drop in milage and the wetting around my pump was barely enough to cause a small drip.

I think the way to do itis to first open the picture on your computer, then right click and select "edit" to open it in Paint. Then on the left side, you can select tools, colors, etc. to modify your picture. Once you make the circles, arrows, insert text, and whatever else, then click save as (under file?) and give it a new but similar name. (If you just save with the same name, I think your original would be lost)

Leaking injection pumps on the 03-05 trucks is a common problem. Most were replaced under warranty if they leaked. The one's that did not leak under warranty are running on borrowed time. DC/Bosch updated the pump design mid 2005 and there have been no problems with the new design.

It was a gasket/housing design flaw and would show up more prevulent during cold weather.

My CP3 looks similar to your pics... An oily dirty film. I'll wipe it off once and awhile. . and it slowly comes back.

Mine too. It takes a long time for the film to come back after cleaning (many months).

Barbwire, looks to me like you'll be needing a new pump. :( The good news is I hear they're pretty easy to install.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. It's good to know that the install is easy. Now I just need to find a good price. Money seems to be on a fast horse out, and the old grey mare comming in. :(

Is your truck under warranty? Mine was leaking and the dealer replaced it free
