Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Help! Is this worth it for this mint '02?

Just looked at an '02 CTD 6 speed slt LOADED all options but leather. club cab long bed... 5002 miles. The truck has been garaged in the winters. absolutely show room condition. Guy wants over 5 K OVER blue book for this truck... putting it in the range of a new one. Thoughts? No doubt its a beauty but is this price justified?

Sounds to me like if that is the year and type truck you like you will never find a cleaner one. From the description I would bet it is stock which in my book is better. You know it has very probably been driven easy. It may be almost as much as a new one but you have to decide if you like the g2 or g3 better. I for one would not take a g3 in a straight across trade for my 2001. There is nothing at all wrong with the new trucks I just like mine that much.

I'm getting $26K for my '01 2500 4x4 with some items I'v added, but nothing that has voided the warranty on the motor. My truck (the '01) is in perfect shape and has only 60K miles.

Blue book is $22,800..... and the only reason I'm letting her go is to tow and haul a camper a little easier.

The friend at work that's buying her is stoked..... he's seen this truck from day 1 and always offered to be first in line to aquire her if she's up for grabs.

If you've got the same situation... ... I think you're getting the truck that will be the best fit for ya..... as long as you know it's history and it doesn't have anything that might cause ya to be hesitant about it's longevity.

Sounds like my truck. 01, 3500 ETH/DEE, I have little over 20k miles on mine. I can count on my fingers how many times it's been driven in the rain. A few upgrades here and there. I would laugh at anything less than 30K and have a few retired people asking if I want to sell it. The 01/02 ETH/DEE's are going to hold their value IF kept clean. For you to find one with 5K is nothing short of amazing... . As the new truck prices rise higher and higher, mines looking better and better... .

My truck has about 19,000 miles on it, has been garaged any time it wasn't pulling our 5th wheel, and doesn't have a mark on it. I wouldn't sell it for Blue Book value, either.



If it's worth $5K over Blue Book to you, that's all that matters. A fair price is that which is agreeable to both buyer and seller.

The other thing is value received for your money. This seems like a lot to pay for an "Older" truck, but, 01/02 HO's are and will more so be looked at as the work horse of the "Electronic" motors that still had some element of simplicity.

I just saw an add in the local paper for a pick-up that was identical to mine (close). It was $3000. 00 more than I paid new. Couldn't believe it. That doesn't mean the dealer wouldn't have come down on it a little but still... ...

At this point in time though... I wouldn't sell my truck for what that dealer was asking... . so I guess it's worth every penny. As a matter of fact I wouldn't sell or trade this rig for anything (with in reason).

If you like that truck... get it.

when i found mine 02 all that were on the lots were the new 03s and i was bummed i wanted a 02 so bad then one day there she was behind the lot with 792 miles persons financing fell through so they gave it back to the dealer so i got a steal on it fully loaded and cowhide even my wife was happy when i came home she said she hated the new style anyway i to think the 01. 5 and02 will be the choice ones in the future if taken good care of

Hey, don't leave out the 01's, you know the ones that still had body trim, cup hoders, hood isulation, lighted vannity mirrors, ect...

I agree with Sageair and would not trade my 01. Ijust returned from Fort Mcmurray, Alberta and (it was snowing on wednesday morning when I departed) my truck ran great. Love it

Wouldn't trade my 2001. 0 with all the trimmings (even the rear drum brakes)!

Yea, I like my rear drum brakes. I figure anything that has been in production with good results longer than I have been alive I'll go for. Not only that but I haven't seen a lot of semi's and lowboy's with all wheel disc brakes.

I watched a 2002 HO 6 speed 50K miles go through the auto auction and sell for $27,400 it had a cap on the bed everything looked stock.

I would avoid Auto autions unless your a dealer. It's even more true when you find a vehicle there that is in demand. One has to look at this 02 you posted here and ask, A dealer/person couldn't sell this and needed to auction it? There are exceptions, but most of the time there is a reason they are there.

Also a 2001 1/2 4x4 4 doors always garaged never driven in the winter with 3,000 miles on the clock!

WOW! THese sound sweet. I understand how some people use there trucks for work and they get used. Drive me nuts to see though. Say I was a logger. The LAST thing I would ever do is buy a 40K truck as the crummy. I see it all the time in my neck of the woods. 40K crew cab powerstrokes and Dodges that are thrashed beyond belief in less than 2-3 years.

An '02 with 5,000 miles on it? That's great as far as the truck is concerned but I wonder if that engine should have been run more. Cummins engines are made to run and running 'em hard won't hurt as long as they're run right. My '03 has 39,000 miles on it and it hasn't even been anywhere.



Oh, and it's not for sale either!

I'm glad I'm not the only anal one on here. My '01. 5 is like new and IS for sale. Like you guys, I hate driving it in crappy weather and it's always in the garage. I drive my wife and sons crazy with my meticulousness, you know, parking away from everybody else, letting the turbo cool down before we can shut it off,etc.
