What synthetic gear lube do you use in your rear diff?

Let's talk about truck tool boxes

It's time for some new treads. I'm looking for a 10 ply 35x12. 50 to run on my stock 17" wheels. I'm trying to choose between the Cooper STT, Toyo MT, and Nitto Trail Grappler. I'm currently leaning towards the Toyos because of their reputation for good tread life and because I can get them cheaper than the Nittos or Coopers. I was looking into the Hankook Dynapro MT, but none of my suppliers have any availability. I'm looking for any suggestions or opinions on what has and has not worked for you. These will go on the truck in my sig. I don't drive it every day and most of my driving is pavement. I use it in the pasture and on some dirt roads, but that's about it. Please limit suggestions to tires available in the above size and ply rating.

Have you checked out Goodyear Duratracs? I run them (285/75/16) off road ALOT in the spring and early summer and they are a great tire. They clean out in the muck very well, have a tough as nails sidewall, and so far at nearly 30k miles on them they are wearing very well. Ive got a few friends who run larger sizes (315/70 I think?) and they are holding up very good as well. They look very similar to the tires you posted above. I had a set of 265/75 Cooper STT and they were horrible I trashed them in no time flat. I was very surprised because I had the exact same tire (31x10. 50x15 Cooper STT) on my Toyota pickup and they were awesome. Dont know if it was the extra weight that killed them or what the deal was with them but they only lasted about 35k for me. Ive not had any experience with the other tires you posted.

Have you checked out Goodyear Duratracs?

Goodyear's website lists the 315/70R17 Duratrac as an 8 ply tire rated for 3195 lbs at 50 psi. I tend to overload my 3/4 ton pickup on occasion so I'm steering away from anything less than 10 ply rated... which is why I'm not choosing the Mickey Thompson MTZ. If I wasn't looking for the stiffer sidewall and extra 500 or so pounds per tire, the MTZ would be my clear winner. The Toyo is 3640 @ 65 psi while the Nitto is 3195 @65 (same as Duratrac). See where my confusion comes in? The ratings can be apples to oranges at times and higher price doesn't always get a better value.

I totally agree with sticking with a 10 ply thats what mine are and I wouldnt put anything less on my truck either. I never paid close enough attention to my friends truck, I just assumed they were available in 10 ply in those sizes as well as the smaller size I run. Sorry for putting them out there I should have looked closer at availability before posting

I run the Toyo M/T's 35x12. 5x17 E on stock rims with a level kit. These are the toughest tires I have ever seen. Very quiet also. They are also made in USA!

I have the Toyo MT, Nitto Trail Grappler, and Toyo AT in 295/70 and 75 sizes. By far the best mileage has been the Toyo MT's, a little over 45k. The Nittos are going to be done at 30k, the Toyo AT did not make it to 30k. The Toyo MT's were by far the best tire I have ever run on pavement, ice, mud, etc, and the best tread wear.

At this point I have nearly made up my mind to buy the Toyos. This is my first winter working for myself so I'm holding onto my $1200 a little longer before blowing it on tires. I want to be sure business is going to decent through the slow season before I buy anything I don't really have to have. Of course, if I manage to sell my perfectly good 285/70R17E Trail Grapplers, it might speed me up a little.

BD, if you are set on Toyo, check out the new open country 2 tire. It is a new tread design and more aggressive than the original. Not quite a mud terrain, but more aggressive than a typical all terrain. Just put these on my truck in 285 75 17 and love them. And they were 1050 installed.

i have looked at the new toyo at2. i like it a lot, but i want a more aggressive tire. I may even consider them on the rear of my service truck in either a 285 or 265 r16 size. i don't daily drive my dodge and i'm not ready for 37 inch mud grapplers yet, so i think this will be my in between tire.
