Help me i/d this connection

Was installing ray t's banjo bolts this weekend and discovered a loose connection. (it fell out when i touched it. ) it was on the front of fuel filter and similar to the map sensor conector (2 pin) . What is it and what does it do? is this a possible source of my sub 12 mpg fuel consumption?? inquiring minds want to know.

Probably the "water in fuel" sensor connection, wouldn't think it would affect mileage though.
