I have a leather interior in my truck and my wife's getting close to giving birth (due date is January 28th) to our first child and we live 40 minutes from the hospital. What I'm trying to figure out is how to avoid damage to the seats or the interior if her water breaks in the truck. I'm a newbie at this one and I don't even know how much fluid there will be but from what I've seen on the TV in the past it could be quite a bit! Also helpful would be how to do this without offending/making her mad as the hormones are raging! What if I can't contain it - how should I clean it up? I couldn't figure out where to post this one so I'm sorry rob if it's in the wrong place (I really try hard to post to the correct areas). I figured since the leather interior wasn't an option until the 2nd generation (I think) this would be the best place. Sorry if this grossed anyone out but I'd hate to ruin the interior in a truck I've only had for 3 months!

Steve, there is only one real solution to this, you must take care of that truck and tell the wife she has to ride in back #ad

I have tried Pete's solution. Believe me,IT DOESN'T FLY. Instead, I suggest you buy the cheapest universal fit vinyl seat cover you can find. Don't worry about the carpet-despite my best efforts it still looks good after three years of having coffee and jelly donut crumbs ground into it on a daily basis.

Steve, put some towels on the seat and then some medical absorbent pads on top of them, you can get these at drug stores, they are absorbent on one side and moisture proof on the other, thats the side that goes toward the seat, they are about two feet square I use them in the hospital everyday and they work great. Bottom line is simple though, have a healthy kid and to hell with the seats if necessary.

I don't know I've had horse manure,chicken____,hay and a few other fragrences. Don't worry about it I never had fun with a truck until I've gotten scratches and some kind of animal manure in or on it.

Steve, My wife's water broke in my PHORD. I put a couple of well folded beach towels on the seat and that took care of the problem. Nothing reached the seats. We had a 55 minute ride to the hospital. Afterwards, I got rid of the Phord, kept the little girl and bought me a Ram. The amount of fluid when the water breaks is not as much as you might think, but take precautions (like those listed above) and you'll be fine. Congratulations.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Especially the medical absorbent pads, Andy! You are right with your bottom line too - the most important thing is definately to have a healthy baby. I just figured if I don't have to go through h. . l cleaning out the truck then why not be preemptive. Again thanks for the help all!

Steve, Leave the Ram home and take her car..... she is the one that got you in this predicament in the first place!
Hope you have a sense of humor...

Now that would take a sense of humor. Loading her into a Jeep Wrangler with 3 inches of lift and 32x11. 5's (her daily driver) would be interesting!

Steve - My wonderful other saved the Ram interior by dumping her water while grocery shopping at a local store so her Mother had to take her to horsepistol since she was with her at the time.
Okay to the point - While makeing another X-mas list I see Cabela's has waterproof seat covers for $20. 00 each and was thinking about them for myself to be used while Deer/Elk/Bird hunting and for those other, not so clean things guys do like wood cutting and trail riding. They have one for a bench seat too for $35. 00.

I wish I had had your foresight. Almost exactly 3 years ago (Dec 23, 1996), we were in route to the hospital in my wife's Suburban when her water broke. Wish I would have had HVAC's power because the Chevy Sub could'nt make it to the hospital in time. We had to pull over and I delivered the baby IN the Suburban on the side of the road. After Mom and new little girl got comfortable at the hospital, I just took it to a car wash and opened the doors and sprayed it out, then used towels to soak everything up. You would never know it today and this was cloth seats. This episode really made for a great Christmas memory. Only downer was that OB doc still charged me full price. I really did'nt complain since I had a healthy baby and a great story. When my wife is asked if she expected the water to break and the baby to be delivered on the way to the hospital, she says, "Of course not, if I'd thought that was a possibility, we would have taken my husband's truck. " This is true. I have witnesses. Still have the Suburban, too.
