Fuel pump question?

While driving today my 'Check Gauges' light came on, and when I looked at the 'Oil Pressure' gauge, it was on '0'
I pulled over and checked the oil level, and it was fine, then called my dealer who said it may be a sensor and to bring it in in the morning. I called another dealer and they said to have it towed in.
The only thing that I did differently just before the gauge failure was to start the truck without waiting for the 'wait to start' light to go off. The truck had been setting a couple of hours while I was working on a house.
Any ideas?

Those electronic gages sre just great! Sounds like you might check into a mechanical gage in stead of getting a new electronic one.

just some info... I had the same thing happen to my 98. . 24 valve the damnn dealer ordered the sending unit and it took 3 weeks to get it. . they ordered the wrong one... there are two wire sending units and also three wire ones... my needed the three wire one another 3 weeks wait with zero lbs. of oil pressure showing for a total of 6 weeks. . gives ya the shakes
the sending unit is below the lift punp on the drivers side of the block check your out and make sure which one they order. .

My truck did this within two hours of driving it off the lot. I stopped for the night and the next morning it was fine. Four hours later it did it again. I called a Dodge dealer who told me that's a common problem, but DC won't let them stock sending units because they keep installing them. I was also told that I would hear the lifters clattering over the diesel sound if I really lost oil pressure. I never had mine looked at and the gauge fixed itself. I have read that the harness connections can come loose and cause this problem.

My oil pressure gauge is acting up... quite a shock when it goes to zero psi at 50mph!

new sending unit:
Cummins: $64. 00
Dodge: $199. 00

My local dealer says its covered under warranty... I have an appointment in the morning, and will let ya know.

I had a 98 that had problems too. Oil press. gage went to 0 & then started working again. After I took it to them they replaced sending unit. It worked fine for several months. One morning going to work it did it again then started working again. Then about 25 miles down the road it did it again, this time ding dong sounded and fuel gage went empty. Then fuel gage started working again but still no oil pressure. So I figured it was acting up again. Several miles down the road lifters were getting noiser. Smoke was coming out. Checked oil was empty. Gasket on lifter cover blew out & dumped oil. So I guess my gage acted up & there really was a problem. They were going to put short block in it & use my head & turbo. I told owner what happened, that I did not want truck anymore so he made me a deal we both could live with & I have 2000 now. About 32000 now and no problems yet.

Dealer says it's my sensor and put one on order under warranty. So, while in the shop
I rented another pickup as I have to have one for my job. Dealer pays for most of the rental of a 2000 4x4 350 Silverado Chevy. I wish my Dodge diesel was this quick! #ad

[Same thing happened to me the second day I had my truck. Called the dealer & they said a Cummins rep was in the area & wanted to see. Next morning, it was working fine & has never happened again. Cummins rep called me and I explained what happened, he said it has happened to many trucks between 300-500 miles on odometer. I guess mine just re-set itself, dunno.
