VW diesel question

Engine Option Bull Ish

I remember hearing the same thing but I went ahead and got some anyway. I have had mine on for 60k now and I have had no issues with them and was honestly wondering what they were talking about after I put them on. Maybe I just got lucky.

My Dad and I have had the CIPAs on our trucks now for about 3 years, and they're still vibration-free. His will get a bit of a shake when they're extended and the crosswind is just right, but I attribute that to his bug deflector causing some turbulence.

Our CIPAs have tabs molded in to the glass backing that press outward against the mirror housing (outer shell) to stabilize the glass. The friction from these tabs absorbs the vibration that would normally be transmitted right to the adjusting motors. This way the gears in the motors aren't getting the snot beat out of them and loosening up. I don't think the earlier mirrors had these tabs, which may be where a lot of the vibration issues may have developed.

The visibility out of these things is amazing.

I have the exact same mirrors, but I got mine at Summit Racing and they were sold under the name 'Bestop'. Had them for a few years and been very happy. No vibration.

Same here. Don't recall how many miles I've had them, though. Probably pretty close the 60K. Do wish I'd spent the extra money for the heated ones, though. Simple wiring job for me.

If my memory serves me well - were these mirrors OK or do they vibrate? I thought some of you guys had a mirror (not sure if it was this one) that was giving all sorts of vibration issues... .

I've had them on my 1996 since about 2000. I installed them with an expanded-range inch-lb torque wrench, and had less vibration than with the OEM electric mirrors. I recommend `em.

I guess mine dont have the "tabs". Theyre pretty shakey.

Can anyone put up a pic of these tabs? Maybe I can mod the old CIPA's.

I guess the tab is here half way down the mirror. Mine has this spot but never knew what it was. #ad
