I have a problem with my exhaust temp. gauge dropping to 0 and then jumping all over the place. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to fix it. Any help or input would be appreciated. I have already replaced the connection to the battery and that stopped it from happening for about a week but now it does it every once in a while? Connection to the battery is still tight. Is the gauge bad or am I missing something.

Sounds like...

an electrical short somewhere. Check all the wiring that has to do with the gauge. Check to make sure the EGT probe is not touching the exhaust manifold.

Could be the gauge or the sender, but I would check the above first.

EGT gauge

Mine did the same thing I took it to Scheid Diesel and they have a little deal they use to check the gauge, Found out it was the probe. put a new one in and it works good as new. Just something to check.

How to test your sensor

Its really easy to test your thermocoupler, remove it warm it with a blow torch it should output a voltage the hotter it gets. Ithink the problem is a broken wire. The wire is really stiff and dosen't handle vibration and movement very well. Start your truck, warm up the thermocoupler get some one to giggle it were the wire bolts to the thermocoupler while you watch the guage, pulling and pushing the wire. When you find the break just resolder it. Hope this helps. Merv
