Well I change the stock steering box out with a reman. This went about as good as it could. Everything went back together nice, I filled the res. with fluid, turned the wheel back and forth many times with the front wheels off the ground. 'this was not easy" I checked to make sure fluid did not run out. The fluid has alot of bubbles in it, I would think this is normal.

This morning when I backed out I had vary little power steering. It Did not take any more fluid but still had alot of bubbles. Is this just a case of still having air in the system that is giving me the touble :{. What should I do next?

Well the good news is with the new steering box the truck has lost most of the slop it had going down the road. I drove to work this moring (I need to make money to feed this money pit) No I didn't meen that. It was growling at me the hole ride in. I will check the fluid when it gets light out. Input please!!!!

power steering

The best method i have found for bleeding power steering- raise both wheels off the ground, with the engine OFF, turn the wheel from lock to lock about 30 times, wait 5 minutes and repeat. This should bleed it out. I put anew pump on my dad's 91 and it wasn't right for several months until I did that procedure.

Good Luck,

Matt

I agree with mweiman. Add to his proceedure. Hold the steering wheel to full lft lock position, crank engine (dont start). . go full right do the same. . do this a couple of times. Tthis forces the air out. good luck.

There is a piston behind one of the power steering lines on the pump. Sometimes when it has to push a lot of fluid out at once, or recieves a lot of air at once, it can get stuck. I had it happen to me when I changed my steering box as well. I believe the line attaches to a fitting ,and the fitting screws into the pump. Take the line off, and then the fitting, and pop that piston out, clean it up, make sure its not scarred very badly, oil it and put it back in. You will lose power steering fluid in the process, but Im pretty sure that is what happened. Let me know if that works!
