Sorry if this is a dumb question, already did hours of Google searches and forum searches, but still am not clear on what kit/adapter I need to connect my Ipod interface (from PIE)

I have the RB1 nav radio w/ Sirius already installed and working. I do not have a CD changer, so I believe the kit the dealer installed was a sirius tuner box / install kit that does not support a cd-changer?? Some of my searches indicate that there may be / should be an install kit or adapter that supports connecting both a cd changer & the sirius tuner box to the radio (via the 10-pin connector).

I opened up my dash and tested out the Ipod interface, so I know that works (works really well, with great sound, little dismayed that it does not display the artist/song info from the Ipod, but I am not surprised). But, it appears as though I do not yet have everything I need to connect both the Sirius & the ipod interface (which mimics the CD changer, btw).

I am hoping that I do not have to buy an entire new sirius install kit (if that's what I need to support the extra 10-pin connector????) - since they appear to cost $100+, but is that really what I need? I will buy it if somebody can confirm that will do the trick. I just dont want to waist my time and money buying something I don't need. I hope that there is just a smaller adapter or cable that provides the extra 10-pin connector input for the "cd-changer" and that I dont have to replace the black box under my dash (which is my existing tuner I suppose?)

If somebody can help point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!

Check out Dodgetalk.com in the forums there. There were a few threads of guys trying to get the CD changer/Sirius & RB1 to work together with no luck. It may not be possible after reading those threads. I would like to get the Changer/Ipod to work on mine. Let me know if you get it to work!

Thanks Jeff. I will check out those threads again as well. I am almost positive that somebody (in one of those forums) said that you can use the RB1 w/ both Sirius & the factory CD changer, but you just need to have the correct install kit/ adapter... unfortunately they did not mention any details.

I will poke around some more and report back on what I find.

Nate, I would be interested in what you find out as well since I have the changer (RBQ) and the PIE adapter doesn't appear to be compatible with it. We're going on a long trip next month and I would love to have my iPod hardwired in to the headunit.

Yes, if any info is dug up on this subject, please post! I am in a similar predicament - trying to get an aux input and keep my Uconnect. I am trying to contact adapter manufacturers for info, but so far no luck.

I have an RB1 and both a CD Changer and Sirius satellite radio but to get this to work I ended up buying the installation kit for a Jeep Liberty that had special adapter cables and an electronic multiplexer/switch that gets installed between the Sirius and the CD Changer then it connects to the RB1. I tried to purchase the cables and the switch box but the separate prices were about three times the cost of the installation kit.

Some good info here... ...

Looks like artie got it working the way they show in this diagram.

So far I am leaning the same way that artie did.

I was going to order the Jeep Grand Cherokee Sirius Installation Kit (for vehicles w/ rear mounted cd-changer). The reason for this is that I need the multiplex box (that enables you to connect the two units to the single 10-pin connector in the back of the RB1. Perhaps I will order the Jeep Liberty kit instead since we know that one works in the RAM. This should work no problem I suspect... however, one extra detail that somebody might know...

Since I am actually not connecting a factory cd changer (PIE IPOD interface instead), I think I may need to modify the 10-pin connector coming out of the PIE, since it will need to plug into a 12-pin slot in the multiplexer box. However I am hopefull that this will be easy to do, or that I can find a 10-pin to 8-pin adapter/cable to do this for me.

Again, will keep you all posted... If I get all this to work, I will post a tutorial with pics. especially for the wiring changes ;) - if there are any

Nate, I'm thinking the same thing as you but I guess the question that I have is what is the pin connection at the PIE interface? In my case I would need a 16-pin from the splitter to the connection on the PIE box.

Artie, can you provide further details on how you got this to work. I don't see how you still had enough connections to get an iPod wired in.

RB1 with CD to RB1 with CD and Sirius upgrade

I started off with my truck being delivered with the RB1 and 6 CD changer installed by the dealer as part of the purchase. The 6 CD changer was mounted under the driver seat with the magazine slot facing the driver side door. There is a cable with a 12 pin connector on CD end and a 10 pin on RB1 end that was installed thru raceway up into back of dash.

To add the Sirius I purchased the JEEP Liberty installation kit #82207565 as this kit has the adapter cables and mux/switch to allow me to add the Sirius tuner to what I already had. I choose to install the Sirius tuner and the mux/switch under the driver seat (see pictures in readers gallery). The kit has and adapter cable that plugs into the 12 pin from the CD changer and a 12pin that plugs into the mux. There was an adapter cable that was 12pin that plugged into CD changer to RB1 cable and 8pin that plugs into the mux. There was a third adapter cable that was 12pin that plugs into the Sirius tuner to a 16pin that plugs into the mux. With these cable connections and the installation of a TERK Sirius compatable antenna on the dash I was up and running.

I didn't have the SONG/ARTIST display on the RB1 from SIRIUS till I purchased and installed the MOPAR #82208322 cable to replace the original CD Changer cable as the CD Changer cable does not have enough wires to carry the SONG/ARTIST signal from the mux to the RB1.

I will add the SIRIUS tuner pinout diagram and the mux/switcher diagram to my gallery.

Artie, do you not have the PIE interface with an iPod then?

Since the Jeep splitter kit doesn't have a 10-pin open slot it doesn't sound like we have a workable solution then, but perhaps I'm wrong.

1Tufdsl, I think that is correct. With artie's help, we now know what install kit will work in a Ram to install Sirius & the cd changer, however as you noticed, the wiring still needs some adapting for the PIE ipod interface to work. I think the 10-pin out (from the PIE) just needs to be modified to fit into the multiplexer box from the install kit.

I think I am going to give this a try, and if I can get it to work, I will post step by step instructions on the wiring changes.

I do not have an IPOD connected and I have seen some reports on different forums that in general the PIE interface had some problems talking to the RBQ and RB1 systems. This was over a year ago when I saw those reports so maybe they have fixed the problem in the PIE. I think you are in for making your own adapter cable to try and connect the PIE to the mux/switch box. I was looking at making up a cable till I found the JEEP Liberty kit but had a hard time getting the connector parts.

Any updates on this? I sent an email to JL Audio regarding the Clean Sweep system they have. I am not sure if this may be a possible solution or not.

I just bought an RB1 from ebay in hopes to get Sirius and IPOD directly connected since FM Modulators don't work so well in my area.

Glad someone else is scratching their heads... I made my RB1, XM Direct, and u-coonect work but let me tell you it was a pain, I also have a little switch that I have to flip to kill the XM so I can hear U-connect, but heck it works... .

Jason,

The Pie interface will work with the RB1 and iPod but not with Sirius. Unfortunately, it's either one or the other as each uses the 10 pin port on the back of the head unit. Even if you're as creative as MCrossley and figured out how to jimmy-rig a setup for both it would probably create communication problems between the radio and the instrument cluster.

You'll love the RB1 and the Pie interface. I got my RB1 on eBay about a month ago as well. Once you hear your iPod through the interface to the RB1 you'll be as giddy as little school girl that just got her first kiss!!! The sound it absolutely amazing!

Karl

Oh no! Thats not good news... Is there any way to get ipod and sirius directly connected to radio? I am ok with using a seperate sirius unit as long as it is not run on an fm modulator.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything out there that will do both but try Logjam Electronics or Crutchfield and maybe they can help you.
