Salute our Troops!

The car is a 95 with the 3. 8 6cyl (freakin head gaskets!). It will not shift into the next gear until the RPM's get up to 4500 to 5000. Just started doing this over the last two weeks. You can be in city traffic and run it up to 4k and hold or let off and it will not shift up to the next gear.

Cause?

Fix?

Is this the throttle cable, or a second cable from the throttle body to the transmission? Where does this cable typically go from and to.

I have the book on the car, I'll go look it up.

95 should not have a TV cable, as it should be equipped with the AODE Transmission. This transmission is computer controlled. I would start by having it scanned for any codes, and then would start to look at the Throttle Position sensor, and also the Vehicle speed sensor

I thought most V-6 mustangs had a A4LD. Since he had head work done is why I thought of the cable/linkage. If it does have an AODE, then a simple computer scan should pin point it. How long ago was the heads worked on? Did the shifting problem start right after?

Oops, my bad on the year. It's a 94.

I did the head gaskets one year ago this month. The transmission problems started a couple of weeks ago. The transmission fluid has less than 15k on it, the level is good, and the color a little darker than brand new, kind of like a maraschino cherry color.

That I can see, there is not a TPS on the car. The throttle cable goes directly to something like throttle linkage on the intake.
