Help with II tow twins install

I am going to be putting a set of tow twins this weekend and I am looking for some pics or tips for the install. I have done a search and I have come across afew things, but not enough, Since II still doens't believe in instructions I have to rely on others for help. You would think that after spending over 5K they could at least take a few digital pics and send them with the kit. It's not that figuring it out looks to be that difficult, but I would like to be prepared.



I am specifically looking for details on the high and low pressure oiling set up and cooling line reroute. I have found that you need to pull out a lower freeze plug for the extra low pressure hose, but where do you hook up the other hp one? Do I need to find a "T" fitting somewhere? I am also unsure of the orientation of the hp lines since there are different fittings. Finally, I am unsure about the mount for the big turbo. There is an 8" piece of 1"x3/16" piece of bar stock and a 2"x1"x3/16" plate with a hole in it that I have know idea what it is for. Hopefully I can get my 5"to 4" exhause adapter so I can do the install on Sat.

For the bottom turbo, should be k31, You will have to pull out the stock oil drain tube. The mount for it Should be a oil drain and a engine mount as 1 piece.



For the cooling line kit, It should look like a "L" shape with a split on the end. The one that points up will go to the existing heater hose. The straight one will follow the path of the stock one, There should be a "U" shaped hose for this to curl around the exhaust manifold.



As for the oil lines use the stock opening for one turbo and the take out one of the plugs on the oil filter housing for the other line.

I would enlist the help of a friend with the install, it will go alot smoother trust me. You'll need it when you try to mount the k31. I didn't have luck with the 5 to inch exhaust adapter, it squeaked and drove me crazy. So i just got a 5 inch system.

I started looking a little harder and it seems that the down pipe in the kit is now reduced to a 4". This makes my life a little easier, but I already ordered the 5-4" adapter . Luckily I ordered the 4" PAC in-line and not the 5".



On the hardware, I have figured out the drain for the k31 because it has a heavy duty flange, but it looks like I have to weld up the bracket. No big deal for me since I have a welder. On the oil drain going that replaces the original drain do you insert the tube wiht the 90* bend or the straight one? Also, the coolent flex hose is straight, but that part looks simple to hook up. I still don't know the orentation of the hp hoses, but I guess I can figure it out once I strip out the old stuff.



Did your kits come with blow off valves in the pipe ging to the innercooler? Mine has 2. Are you suppose to plumb them anywhere?

My kit came with pop-off valves in the intercooler tube. They don't have to be plumed to anything, they are just there just incase you build too much pressure.



The straight drain tube goes where the stock one went into. Be careful when you install it b/c I broke off a piece of mine and it fell into the oil pan. Had to drop the pan to get it out.

Yeah I know. I had to hit up Dustin (snoxracer) a lot with info and tips for the install.



You'll be happy with the kit though. Just make sure the exhaust manifold to top turbo (ps62) bolts are nice and tight. I blew out the gasket and it sounded awful at about 50 psi of boost

That'd be what I'd guess!



Also I talked with Brady quite a bit when I enstalled mine and he was helpful. Because when I recieved my kit I was really confused, because II had actually sent me a plumbing kit for the race kit and not the one for the towing twins. But we got it all figured out.



Mobius, what are you running for fueling and such? Just wondering what kind of egt's you see and how well yours spool? I tried my Smarty on 3 and tst on 3x3 and ez on 2 but it rattled Waaaaay too much. Probably too much timing so I am thinking I might try smarty 3 and tst on maybe 1x1 or Smarty 4 and tst 3x3. My egts are about 200 degrees cooler with smarty. I also have the smokey version of the Smarty, I reguested that Bob not update mine with the latest software b/c I wanted to try it out first. I have to stock injetors and stock cp3 with a 2 micron filter and big line kit.



I have never seem above 1200 with the twins. Also and lag that might have been there w/o smarty is gone. Smarty takes care of the low end, and them once the turbo's light, Hand on. Does seem to light the turbos faster than just the tst alone.



I havent' really had too much play time with the smarty. I just got one a couple of weeks ago.

Either of you guys have trouble with the drain tube for the small turbo? I can not bolt it to the flange because it hits the mounting flange. I wonder if the tube twisted when they welded it? I don't think I am going to grind the mounting flange. I guess I will try to heat and bend the tube or cut and weld it on correctly.



Other then tis the install is going smoothly. Well, the ATS exhauset manifold is a PITA. The center bolts that are on the bottom suck because you can not get the allen wrench on to tightnen them. The only thing I found that I could use was an allen with the rounded head so you can off set when tightening. Unfourtunately I can not get the correct wrentch on it for torquing down. Also the drain piece in the block sucked, but I got it in. I hope the 90* one goes in the front where I knocked out the freeze plug because it ain't coming out now. If I am wrong I guess I will flex hose it some how. These are the little things that would be made much easier if they sent simple directions with the kit.

The small turbo (ps62) the drain tube should be the 90 degree bend. ITs the one that you have to take the freeze plug out.



I'm kinda confused as to what mounting flange you are talking about.



The drain tube for the small turbo should bolt to the turbo and bend back down toward the block and it should be pretty much a straight shot with one of the 7/8th inch tubes

The tube I was talking about was the one that bolts to the turbo. It passes by the mounting flange of the turbo and I guess the one I got warped during welding because it wouldn't clear. After heating it 4 times with the torch I finally got it right.



After 12 hours of wrenching I got both turbos mounted and the oil lines done. I am still not convinced that I have the hp lines right because they were near impossible to tighten. There is just no room for wrenches. I am pretty sure that if I didn't have to install and then remove every part multiple times because something interfeared I would be done already. I still have the intake side to mount and the lower turbo bracket to finish. If all goes well I may even cut in my PAC brake on Sun.

I think your doing good, the only set of twins I helped install took three full 10 hour days to get right, and that did not include any tuning time.

Did you make sure that you clocked the center section of the top turbo, so that the oil supply line is straight on the top so that the drain line is pionting down?

Stopped over Aaron's house yesterday. All I can say is good luck Aaron... . that's a bear of an install with absolutely NO instructions. You would think you would at least get some pointers on paper.
