5th wheel wiring question

Forgive me for not knowing the answer, I don't keep up with the board as often as I used to.

I've got DD1's, a PS boost module and an ex brake on my 2001. I'm making more trips, longer distances, more weight (gross 19k) with a relatively aerodynamic fth wheel/ flatbed Jeep hauler (10. 5' high, rounded nose to it).

I'm wanting more power to carry highway speeds (hi 70's low 80's which is with or slower than traffic) when the hills get bigger and the headwinds get stronger (Lots of time on I-40 going west). Without the wind I'm happy but I'd like that extra margin.

With that said- I'm looking at the Edge EZ, DD's similar box or the VA CPC. From what I can tell all are very similar except the VA does not have a boost module built in. Are any of these running any better or is there something else I should consider? I don't want to go nuts, I'm cooking my rear tires as it is.

I think you would be very happy with an EZ as an addition to your setup. I went from an EZ to a COMP and DD2s. With the COMP in the EZ setting (lowest) and the DD2s, there was a very noticable gain. I'm guessing that you would be around 280rwhp. I don't how far you can go on your stock clutch.

Since you already have the boost module, a good used VA would be a simple mod that will just plug in, and give you plenty of pulling power, w/o having to worry about your exhaust temps, or injection pump being strained.

Thats the combo I have, and mine has plenty of power for towing, can hold any speed I want even uphills at 18k gross.

Removing the VA really loses alot of torque, and it feels like a slug again (even w/ the dd1's & boost module/elbow). You NEED to get the timing advanced, and either the VA or EZ are the way to go if you already have the injectors. The EZ has the boost module which you dont need.

You wont win any drag races with the big "fueling-box" boys, but it will sure run good & give great mileage. You'd probably be around 300 hp, w/ lots of low-end grunt.

Stay away from fueling boxes that connect to the pump wire if you plan to do towing. Unless you want to worry about your pump all the time.

If you are running high 70's to low 80's grossing almost 20K, would you please post on the TDR so your brothers can be sure to get out of your way????

Thanks for the input guys- Barry- what's up? You're from Texas, the land of the fast moving highways. At those speeds On I-40 between here in CA i'm moving with the 80K gross Semi's except I can take most of them on hills. The cars are still wizzing buy. The truck stops great, good trailer brakes, an exhaust brake and the trailer handles great as it's relatively low and light. I'm even under the 20K gross for my ride- no reason to be nervous. The cops don't even bother you at these speeds. Anyway- happy trucking- looks like I'm going to try an EZ for a while (got a good deal). :)

Well, sounds like you have it under control. I run 20 alot to PHX. Seems I40 runs faster. I think you will like the EZ, I have tested a number of differant boxes and my favorite is the EZ. Be careful out there!
