I went out to the street drags Saturday night and had the chance to run against a newer 3/4 4x4 auto w/a Hemi. Owner stated it only had a cold air intake. I really thought that the Hemi would have been faster. At the end of the 1/4 mile I had at least 4-5 truck lengths on him. The guy was cool about it. Wanted to know what chip I had in it. I just told him I wasn't running a chip yet. :-laf

The second race was against a 2nd gen 24v. This guy said he had a "mild chip". Almost the same results, had him by 4 lengths.

The third race I was able to get a Honda hatch back to give me a run. This was a lot closer then the other two. The little ricer stayed about 1-2 lengths behind me all the way down the track.

Per my speedo, I was doing about 95 at the end 1/4. Thats about 3 mph faster since adding the DZ turbo. They weren't running the clocks, so I don't know what my times were. I hoping to be in the high 14's.

those hemi's arent that fast, i have beaten them with my 89 12 valve stock, and also on the street with a 4 cyl saturn. they get peed off, 30k+ for a truck that is slower than an economy car. should have bought a diesel instead.

I run with a buddy out at Houston Raceway Park.

He runs an 04 Rumble bee with, Superchips tuner, Edelbrock headers, flow master exhaust, factory intake with filter removed.

The truck runs constant 14. 8s

In stock form that truck would run 15. 5s

By the end of the quarter I only have him by about 1 truck length.

If you truly are doing 95 in the quarter, then you have easily a LOW 14 second truck. ;)

A guy at work just bought a short cab short box Hemi powered ram. He thinks its really cool and fast. Some people just don't know what they are missing.

Cummins Thunder,

Your 14. 6 time, was that a 4x4 launch? My 60' times are a little high. I leave the line w/very little boost other wise I will just smoke the rear tires. So high 14's are probable more accurate. I don't know how accurate the speedo is at 95 mph. The little ricer guy said he was doing 104 and estimated me at 110. I told him your speedo is way off, because there is no way I was even over 100. I think he was sniffing to many gass fumes. I am sure though he will stick to his 104 when he talks to his buddies. He seemed like a good kid though. He came over and shook my hand and said good race.

How close was your speedo to your 14. 6 @ 90 mph time slip?

Had the Hemi, traded for the CTD 300

I had a 2003 Dodge Quad Cab short bed 2WD with the hemi and thought it had great acceleration and torque until I drove the 2500 Quad Cab 2WD. I now drive the 2500. I was impressed with the neck jerk the Diesel had because I thought the diesels would only outperform the hemi in pulling torque.

I will never admit to my wife that I was wrong. Better mileage and better performance. I did not even have to install mods to see the difference. My 2500 "The Plum" (color) is in islamorada after towing a 27 foot boat from Delaware. The driver reported 11 mpg at 75 to 80, but it had merely 5K on the odometer at the time of departure. A gasser he used last year to pull it down there only got 8 mpg. The additional benefit is the diesel prices have stabilized. I will never go back to a gasser.

Next Saturday they are having the street drags again. I have been tring to get a co-worker w/his 04 6. 0 to come out and play. He is thinking about it.

So this weekend if he shows, I will give you another update.

The Hemi's in the 1500's are quick. But I wouldn't NEVER think about a gasser in a 3/4 or 1 ton. to much weight, not enough torque.

Gary - K7GLD, where do I get one of them shirts :)

The T-shirt was one I made up myself back when the Hemi's hit the scene, and were considered "hot stuff".

The iron-on transfer material is readily available at most any computer store that sells printing papers, ink and such - the design is one I made up with Corel Draw - but most any decent Paint program will work as well. Just remember to "reverse" the print before ironing on, so it will read properly when done.

First of all, GREAT SHIRT. Second, I scored 2 hemi's and a Rumble Bee (hemi also) one night at the local race track. The first guy thought okay, no problem. The second guy tryed to get out of line. The third guy flat wouldn't pull up to the line and so they stopped the track until he did. Beat them all by at least 2 lengths. The staging guy has a real thing for the Dodge diesels and knew that all three guys came togeather to race each other and purposely put them up against me. 2 had paper plates still. Bad night for the hemi boys. Beat by a Diesel, driven by a GIRL. :--) :-laf :-laf :-laf

DieselLady,

Great job on the Hemi boys. What are your 1/4 mile times/speeds? I really thought w/all the hype behind the Hemi name they would be faster.

Thanks, I usually run about 15. 3 sec at about 93. mph. Thats at 2700 ft about sea level and I have never gone to another track so I think adjusted is about 14. 8 sec. I too have issues with keeping the rear tires hooked up because I have a 2wd too. (and I run my stock Michellins with about 60psi in them. ) I just got new Cal Tracks traction bars and have only had a chance to test them once at the track. Seemed to work great but would like to do a few more passes before I start raving about them.

Doesn't it just feel great to "Kill" a Hemi????? :-laf :-laf :-laf

I am not very knowledgeable about traction bars. Do they actually help a 2wd get better traction on the launch? I thought they mainly helped w/wheel hop which is a issue I don't have.

I would bet we would match up well on the track. Your times/speeds are where I think I am at.

I live near you (Agua Dulce). Have you had a chance to evaluate the CalTracs yet? Craig Johnson at Big Power Diesel has been souping up my 2WD Megacab, and he was recommending the CalTracs to me. Traction is the weakest point on the truck right now, and I'm trying to figure out what all my options are for fixing it.
