Got this in an email labelled in my inbox from "PayPal" (as opposed to the usual "service@paypal... . "), titled "Review" I clicked on it (no attachment, thank god), and here is the text of it:

PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed your account, and we need more information to help us provide you with secure service. Until we can collect this information, your access to sensitive account features will be limited. We would like to restore your access as soon as possible, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

To restore your access, click on the following link:

And here is the link- http://www.pproec.com/webscr.php?cmd=LogIn

I logged in, somwhat wary, then when it popped up my account info with the xxxx xxxx xxxx 1234 (not my real acct #, but you get my drift) for my account number, then asked me to VERIFY it by entering my full acct number, I immediately grew suspicous (which is pretty easy for me), then noticed there was nothing resembling Paypal in the address bar. I sent an email through the real PayPal website (paypal.com), and will get their opinion on the matter as soon as someone decides to reply. Thing is when you log in to PayPal from their end, there is nothing about restricted account access or "reviews" or "updates" etc. I even changed my password.

Has anyone else gotten a similar email?

Daniel

I get them all the time. You can send the email to PayPal and they will tell you they are bogas. NEVER go to the URL they send you. Check your account on the PayPal site you enter. I know it says the same thing, but it isn't the real PayPal. Be careful out there.

We need to return to public hangings for these people. :D

If it doesn't start with HTTPS:://www.paypal.com it's not paypal. ALWAYS DOUBLE check. Even for Ebay signin. HTTPS. That is the Secure site.

If it's not HTTPS, and I suspect foul play,, I usually enter all types of funny names and passwords. Email, US@ government.com password FEDS_R_Comin

Or, U HAVE Been reported @ government.com password, Herethey come.

There's planty more.

Sometimes they are phising, other times they want to turn around and sell your passwrds.

DANIEL, ITS ALREADY TO LATE!!!!! When you logged in to that site you used your paypall user id and password and they captured it!!!!!!

If it just happened, log into https://www.paypal.com/ and CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD!!!!!!! DO IT NOW!!!!!

IF YOU CAN'T LOG IN TO PAYPAL, AND YOU KNOW WHAT CREDIT CARD OR BANK ACCOUNT IS LISTED IN YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT, CALL THEM AND BLOCK ANY PAYPAL PAYMENTS IMMEDIATELY!!!!! DO IT NOW!!!!

Paypal will not help you get your money back if someone did get into your account and spend money!!! the only way to stop from getting ripped off is to stop the payments at your bank account or credit card!!!! If any payments to paypall have just hit your account have them reversed immediately.

DOUBLE on what TowPro said. If you did enter your PayPal userid & password in the site you listed, you're in for a world of trouble. You're also gonna want to get in contact with any financial institution you've got linked into your PayPal accounts.

He said he changed his password right after he logged into his real PayPal account.

He should be safe, but I'd keep a real close watch on your account.

Just because it says Paypal or ebay doesn't mean that it goes there. Go to view and turn on the status bar. You will se when you just put the mouse over the link above you will see where it will actually take you.

After I called a scammer's bluff on an expensive piece of audio equipment and turned him in I started getting a whole rash of fake ebay stuff. Mostly fake irrate members threatening to turn me into ebay because I stole their golf club pics or they wanted to pay me for the laptop they just won. Imagine that..... me and golf..... how insane can one get? What am I some border collie playing fetch with a small white ball?

When I clicked the respond button and they were asking for your ebay info. I got suspicious and didn't provide the info. Turned the scammers into ebay instead. Doubt if it does much good.

I get those all the time. I just delete them without even openning them. . most of the time! The last one I got I saw was coming Czechoslovakia, so I followed the link and entered er, um, a rather vivid username and password describing Czechs and "alternative lifestyles"(no offense to Czechs, just wanted to really get them po'd). :-laf Kind of hard to describe on a family website!
