I agree that the stock lights are not adequate, but this is not the safe solution for oncoming traffic.

Have you ever had a head on collision doing the speed limit? Your chances are better with pnp kits.

Good reasons not to put HID into the oem reflector here.

A better choice IMO is to run a light bar with some good Halogen or even HID's relay controlled with your high beams that way when on low beam other traffic wont be blinded and you also get to light up like Close Encounters!

JKloppe's retro the right way is pretty trick too and while his may seem expensive you can spend allot with a light bar too.

hidplanet.com is how i found out were to get the projectors and how to do it correct and legal, my work is not as neat as some but one of those pix in how to hid is mine. it is well worth the time to convert

I have not had a problem with heat running HID in all three of my Harleys and they're quite a bit closer to the lens than the Dodge. As far as legality, i'll take the ticket but for common respect to oncoming drivers/riders, i pay more than enough attention not to glare them. Nice work and a great write up with the Volvo parts.

If you have HID on low beam how do you not glare?

I have HID's just in my fogs, and I avoid running them in town. I try to avoid running them on busy highways.

On the second hand, they light up the road like nothing i've ever used. I do know that the fog housings already have a fairly tight cutoff, like the factory HID's have.

I really think if they were really bad, oncoming traffic would flash me, and that hasn't happened. I don't use them like high beams, on off on off on off sort of thing, but I don't think they're horrible.

I was driving through town on halloween, and I have no doubt that with kids around, it is safer to be able to see. If you put these in, treat them with respect, and it will work out great.

NOTE: My install wasn't accepted by the stock lighting system, I needed to add a relay system.

So if HID conversions are bad, how do you go about getting better lighting? We all know the 03-05 headlights, well, SUCK, and 06+ are BETTE, but theres still something left on the table...

And assume you dont want to clutter the front with a light bar...

I'm not sure how to describe it, the area that was already lit by the stock fogs is brighter, a lot brighter. Then with the HID's there is a general amount of light spread all around. They light up everything pretty well, to the point they require some diligence with use, they are very bright. Back seat passengers notice when I turn them on.

Not adding any aux lights leaves you with using the oem location, since the oem reflectors are so horrible and will just scatter HID conversion add-ons that leave you with just one option- How to HID. Don't forget to add some sort of level control if you haul at night or traffic will no doubt reject the low beams.

You can buy a projector style replacement housing and put HIDs in those. I have them on my 05. They have the metal gate to keep the beam low and have 2 other separate bulbs for the high beams.
