I was at the dealer today having yet MORE warranty work done to my truck and the service manager was telling me that Ford offers a our engine (and a Cat engine) in both the F650 and F750, but not the powerstroke. Upon further investigation I discovered the power ratings are much higher like 300hp and 660ftlb. I inquired what mods they did to get these numbers and he told me when they put the engines in our trucks, they "choke" them down so the trucks will stay together. He then went on to say during a Cummins school he went to is where he learned all this, and that the Cummins is capable of A LOT more than what we are getting. So here's my question... could we load the software for the F650 or F750 ECM's into our ECM's? Same engine, same engine control module, just different software right? (That is what I was led to believe. ) Then we would have the engine producing the power is was built for. Maybe the big difference is more mechanical than software, like turbo or injector size... Any thoughts?

From what I was told @ Cummins, the ISB300 and ISB275 have 3 piece exhaust manifolds, different injectors (275s maybe?;) ), and I dunno whether it was triple or dual nickel resist pistons vs our single and different timing and fueling curves...

Let's make a custom ECM

If you do a search here on "MAD ECM" or ECM you should find some good info.

I have worked on a lot of ISB's in motorhomes and heavy trucks. They are much better, with many more features in the ECM. THe governor kicks in at 2700 RPM, but that can be changed. Also, the non-Chrysler ISB's use 2-piece manifolds, virtually eliminating and cracking or shrinkage problems. :D

I've talked to some mechanics at a big truck garage around here and from what I'm told the bigger and heavier trucks don't use the computer setup that DC uses, that is ECM, Trans Module , and Controller for the pump that our trucks have that's very complicated and how DC wanted it to be. If you buy a 650 or 750 or a little freightliner with the engine you can have them uprate it right off the computer and the better parts are already on the motor. The DC ECM is far to complicated to interface and nobdy has done it yet and the big truck garages won't touch our trucks for an uprate. So I'm told. :(

Yeah, there's a TON of stuff left out of the ECM on our trucks... The Cummins ECM uses two 50-pin connectors, rather than just one on ours. You'd be surprised on what we are missing out on... Fan clutch control, idle control, anything and everything...

Cummins has the program for 300hp

I posted ot here about a year or so ago about this very thing. Cummins mechanic was here doing warranty work on one of my sprayers(12 valve 5. 9). He had e new service truck, Y2K model I think, and I asked him what little secrets were under his hood. He said that he download into the ECM a program from Cummins that made it 300hp/660torque. He said no injector chg, no turbo chg, no nothing just plug it in a push a button. ;) I said get me that disc and we'll be rich!! But he said shop forman had it in safe and would probably deny its existance( he did)!

So there it is. It all in the program, I figured some of you computer hackers would have this figured out by now.
