Have a 97 2500 4x4 with nv 4500 ...
Have had the timing moved to 16degrees btc,4 in diamond eye, full isspro guage set, bhaf and # 11 fuel plate.
Truck runs great but i tow around 17k gvw and going up fairly step inclines my egt s will go up to 1400 degrees farenheit pretty fast in 5th ...when i drop into 4th they drop back down to around 900 to 1000 degrees
Not complaining as i think the truck is doing a pretty good job hauling the weight I'm asking it to.. but just wondering if there's something else i can do to improve the performance without breaking the bank.

Agreed. Sounds perfect.

EGTs are kept in check by engine speed. When EGTs get high you need to downshift to increase engine speed.

Drop into 4th around 1700rpm when egt's get around 1200 degrees at about 60mph and then i can usually climb around 50 to 55 mph from there ...as i said not complaining just wondering if there's other mods i could do to maybe use the power i have without the high egt's

If you add the power and climb a lot of hills/mountains with a heavy load while in 5th gear you will be replacing the NV4500. I replaced mine 11 times in about 700k miles times before upgrading to the G56. I was using 20 psi of boost as my limit for 5th gear. I still limit boost to 20 psi in overdrive but I have only replaced the input bearing on it once using the same power.

A lot of miles and transmissions for sure and a little scary to hear.
Here in Western Montana it's just about impossible to go anywhere without pulling a hill or pass somewhere but after seeing what you have gone through i plan on using 4th gear and keeping an eye on the boost for sure.

With your #11 plate and other mods you should never see 1400 degrees! My truck is set up basically the same as yours and the highest EGT I ever see is 1200-1250 EGT in fifth gear at full throttle towing around 10K. I agree with ofelas that you are probably losing boost pressure.

Will do thanks.
