High idle enable

It is my understanding that i just have to go to the dealer to get that feature enabled so i can use the cruise controls to adjust it. Do they charge you to enable this? Also, i have a smarty i just bought, if i change my ecm software with the smarty will the idle feature be lost in the settings change?

The dealer will likely charge you to enable it, so check to see if it's already enabled from the factory before you go to the dealer.

Don't know anything about the Smarty...

I downloaded the newest software for my SMARTY when they came out back in December and was messing around and stumbled upon the feature on accident. I've never had the dealer try to enable it so I would guess its in the SMARTY programing. As you can see from my sig this is on a '04 maybe diff. for other year models.

My dealer took care of it for no charge. If you go to the dealer you purchased from and they charge you I would be pretty hacked off. I know they need to pay the bills, but this I feel should be no charge. It took them all of 10 minutes to set this feature on my truck. Good luck with it - it's a damn cool feature.

With the truck running, turn on the cruise and hit set. The truck should ramp up to approx 1100 RPM and stay there. You can then adjust the idle speed up or down using the resume/accel button (idle +) or the coast button (idle -). Pressing the brake will deactivate the high idle feature.

The feature can be used at any time as long as you do not have your foot on the brake.

This also assumes that you have an auto trans. The manual trans requires either a clutch switch to be installed or alternatively an ECM pin (B22?) to be grounded.

Yup 04 and up auto trans with smarty... ... ... . it's on. Just use the cruise switches. Tap the bake pedal or hit the cruise off switch to turn it off.

But they said they enabled it anyhow just in case I found a way to do it. Well went home called PacBrake they sent me a pigtail for the ECM, grounded it, and guess what... sure enough it worked. The best part was no charge for them "trying. "

I didn't know if you figured it out yet, but you can use your Smarty to enable the high idle as well as change some other features. If you make software changes with the Smarty, it shouldn't change any of those other features like the high idle.

High Idle enables you to use the cruise controls buttons to manually ramp up the idle speed and is available on autos when enabled by the dealer or Smarty, etc. All trucks ramp RPM up to 1000 after idling for 2 minutes when the ambient air temp is around 30F or somewhere around there. If it is extremely cold, the truck will idle up to 1000 as soon as it starts. This past month my truck has done this a few times.

from what I understand, it can only be done on 04. 5 and newer motors.
