Folks,

I recently moved to Fairbanks, AK, and before I left Cal. I had a Dodge dealer perform the 18-019-01 TSB (high-idle and 3-cylinder shut-down). Well, its been cold enough to activate (19F) recently, and I have purposefully left the truck outside to test the software.

So, I make sure all the conditions are met, and yet there is no high-idle. I am bringing the truck to the local Dodge to verify the software has been installed and enabled (I think that it wasn't enabled the first time).

Now to my question: the Service rep I spoke to mentioned an "idle-up solenoid" that they install on the diesel pickups they sell. Cost is about $350 installed. Does anybody have any idea what product this is? I'd just as soon buy it and install it myself if possible. I'll find out from Dodge what this piece of equipment when I take it in next week, but thought someone here might know.

Thanks.

Craig

I made a high idle setup for about 30 bucks using a "idle stop Solenoid" for an older rochester 4bbl card off a 79 trans am (thats the application the parts counter guy looked up). I then fabbed a metal bracket using 1/8 x 1 steel that attaches to the APPS bracket bolt. I heated up teh APPS cover and cut a notch out for the solenoid to protrude a little. A switch in the cab controls the solenoid. It was easier ake the whole setup than it was to type this description.

Harlod Bowers make a very simple high idle selonoid kit. I think cost was either $35 or $45. I have one on my 12v and am very happy with it. His email is: -- email address removed --

I have seen one in the $350 dollar range before but I cannot remember the manufacturer. It uses the cruise control circuit and cuise buttons for the high idle. It has some neat features, but not worth it when you can purchase one for 1/10th of the cost.

Geno's has a fix for $24. 95 mine works just fine kind on crude but works. it hooks under the steering wheel to the foot feed has an ajustment screw not high tec but fool proof and you can set any rpm you want!

i cut a piece of plywood about 3" wide into a trapazoid chape that matches the angles of my fuel pedal and my seat and cut the length just a little shorter than the length when my seat is all the way back. i can adjust the idle speed by tapping the seat adjustment foward until i reach the desired rpm.

Well, I have went through two idle stop solenoids in the past 6 days, finally got my money back and bought a cable. Has anyone drilled a hole in the upper portion of the accelerator pedal and installed their push / pull cable through like that? Any guidance appreciated.

Hi Idler

Craig

Fairbanks Dodge dealer installs an after market hi idler. They won't sell it unless they install it ($380). Cheaper to buy one over the internet and install it yourself. ($199). Word of advice...

Be wary of Fairbanks "Diesel specialty shops". :)

I didn't drill through the pedal.

Had 2 pieces of metal and drilled 2 matching holes in them and bolted it to the pedal. One is a little longer than the other with a hole for the cable to pass through. The go pedal is free to move without using a chain or something else for slack.

Made another bracket to attach to the cable and to the bottom side of the dash. Attached using one of the present screws.

It works OK, but with the way the cable is situated, it is a little hard to use and set. Might try something better when I put in the new cable. The old one had a round plastic handle and it came loose. New one has a metal T- handle on it.

The 6. 9L and probably the 7. 3's have a solenoid on the fuel injection pump for bumping up the idle.
