Ok guys lets hear and see your best ideas for a high idler for us 12v guys Im looking for something electronic or manual Ive heard the stick in between the seat and pedal but that is a little primitive for me. Feel free to post pics I would love to see them. Thanks

Ah, but the beauty of it is that it says it can be cut to the desired length. So theoretically it could be used by a pickup truck. It just says to order long to allow for cutting. and for us it would be ordering VERY long:D

I also had Bower's setup, and it did alright. I had several plungers go bad, and he replaced two of them with no charge to me. I am thinking of finding a stronger solenoid, maybe something off of a car window, etc. that can be controlled much like the idle setups in semis. We'll see how much time I get to play with that.

You're right - there is no rule that says you have to use all of the cable's length... ...

BUT - Controlling the idle speed at the tailgate would still be cool..... For those that like to run log splitters or something off the class-V receiver hitch.

Fast Idle

Last night i got a fast idle solenoid off of a quadrajet carb and fabbed up a bracket that mounts to the timing cover and presto i have fast idle!!!!!!!!!Oo.

The idea I have, that I haven't actually hooked up was this: Bicycle parts. The brake cables should be plenty strong, and the shift adjustment levers are cheep and can be put anywhere. I'm trying to find a good place to tie into the throttle.

Josh

I've got abotu $10 into parts.

maybe not

The electronic throttle would only work if you had "Drive by wire" throttle. AKA Electronic throttle. I will be installing a plain ole' hand throttle to my rig.

I have the Bowers Idle System. I have been happy with it and will probably be ordering one for Dad's truck pretty soon.

John,

Thanks for letting me know. (Knock on wood) I am still on my original selenoid. Apparently some were just not holding up. Do you know if Harold is looking for a replacement selenoid to continue selling the kits?

Here's the email reply I got from him on October 29th after I asked on high idlers:

<blockquote>"I had to put the 12 valve kits on hold for now.

I need to find a better quality solenoid. The

Original solenoid I was using was real good,

But I can’t get it any longer so I used a different

Brand and had too many failures. So that’s where

I stand right now. I don’t want to sell one that

Won’t last. So if and when I find a reliable solenoid

I can start selling them again. Sorry about that.

I still sell the 24 valve kits however. "
</blockquote>

I really like that part "... I don’t want to sell one that Won’t last. ... " even though it leaves me with my stick for another year.

Nfox where did you get the solenoid was it one that you just had laying around or did you go somewhere and get if so how much did you pay for it thanks.

Manula idle

I bought the cable from AW Direct as shown in one of the above posts. I than mounted the knob in the cigarette ligter hole. (dont smoke and still have power port) It is a perfect fit. I than ran the cable to the Injection pump. I cut it to the right length mounted it though on of the holes im the Throttle bracket. Than I use the chain supplied in the kit to hook to throttle lever. Put some RTV or silicone where ti cable mount to engine or you will get significant engine noise in cab.

Works great. On a cold morining I give it three full turns ( will vary depending on install) and she idles at a constant 1000. The reason I installed it was for cold starts. When Cold the pedal is hard to press and I would get a high rev, not good for cold engine. Than I would quickly let off and it would stall. With the new cable - nice controlled starts.

I have also used it as cruise control on very low traffic night driving. It isnt the safest, but once you are comfortable with it all you have ot do is push th knob in and it returns to idle. Since engine does not compensate for hills truck will slow and speed up. But consistent fuel flow gives unbelievable mileage!!

Fast Idle Solenoid

I just went to my local salvage yard and found a motor with a quadrajet carb on it and pulled the solenoid and tested it on my truck battery to make sure it worked and the junk yard owner didn't charge me nothing!!Oo.
