I have a 1999 Dodge with the VP44, I put a High Output VP44 (045?)on it and I am trying to figure out if this has affected my timing any. I was told it would advance it, if so is the control chip on the VP44 doing it or is the gearing such that it is a mechanical advance? I have a smarty and an Edge and do not want to advance the timing to much. Head has been O Ringed so I am not to worried about the head gasket I just want to know where I sit. When I use the Smarty it is always set on no timing advance. Boost jumps to 50 plus with very little effort. Lots of smoke. I also have 150 injectors.

I was talked into the High Output VP44 because of the extra torque and fueling now I am wondering if I have made a mistake. I had the BD High Output on it until it went out and I loved it.

The HO VP44 has smaller plungers which deliver the fuel more quickly into the cylinder, which has the net effect of more timing advance. The benefit of a HO pump is a little better MPG, the downside is because of its smaller plungers it doesn't have as much HP potential as the standard VP44. It is more common for guys with HO trucks to switch out for to the standard pump than the other way around.

little confused here. your auto cannot except a oem HO-vp44. are you meaning you have a monster vp-44 or a hotrod vp-44? or in BD's product they call theres the high performance pump. not HO. I know a true 5-6speed HO can go to a SO. how did they do this if they put a HO on your auto

Garmpm Diesel of the Atlantic area told me the HO 045?? would give me better MPG, 50 more foot pound of torque by advancing my timing over the stock 035??. He said it was a direct upgrade. His reputation sold me on the idea and Now I am trying to figure out what was exactly done. I know I should have know this before I started, I guess I just got star struck by his reputation and I am not doubting it now.

I am just confused by what was done. I want to go back to the BD HP VP44 which I had real good luck with for 120,000 miles. As you can see by the thread I have tried to get what I need to know from the source.

Some lessons are expensive to learn and I think I have just learned one of them. I want a good daily driver 500 HP and 13 second 1/4 mile. As you can see by my signature I should be close to that now.

How was this done if they are a direct change over?

I do most of the work on my truck for this very reason. I put on the turbos, and injectors, and most of the rest of it. Sometimes I buy into what others say is the right thing for me. I know Jeff Garmon knows what he is doing and by no means am I questioning what he did, just how he he did it.

Hmm. I would talk to him about the pump more. I just know that any pump that is a HO would not go on a auto. but he may call his pumps a HO and they are more like bd's high perfomance pump. well just looked at his website sorta a website. doesn't list any bosch name or rebuilder on it. but that pump could be just a oem version of a so that has some timing added? I have seen a bosch pump they called a SHO. give him a call
