I was wondering if anyone has installed the banks high ram intake? I'm considering getting one based mainly on looks. But I was wondering if it actually has any effect on performance.

There's been a lot of talk on here (even dyno results) of the high ram causing a loss of hp. The only reason that I can think of for that would be that the larger diameter crossover tube probably decreases the velocity of the air as it enters the intake, compared to the stock crosover tube, even though this one probably flows smoother.

I agree with most people on here that there's MUCH better ways to spend your money. Basic water/meth injection isn't too much more, and actually does something... Holset turbine or compressor housings aren't too expensive either...

Don't waste your money. Banks is a ripoff.

I was also looking at the High Ram and read all the previous threads on it. They do look really cool and are $265 or so on ebay I believe. In any case, I too have read that on a dyno they actually showed a loss of power. I also agree that as a company, Banks appears to have pretty poor service and doesn't stand by their products. They are also way overpriced typically. I have decided to avoid the High-Ram, and suggest you guys do too, unless you are a ricer type who just likes a pretty intake regardless of performance ;)

that's hitting down low... pretty is nice... i gain'd 15hp by painting my plastic valve cover and another 5hp for adding the blue outerwears pre filter for my bhaf... :-laf:rolleyes::-laf:rolleyes:

I have no experience with the HighRam. However, I would strongly contradict the comments of Banks having poor service and not standing behind their products. Pricing, I guess, is a matter of perspective.

Please try this after you read this, then give me an honest opinion on Banks service. This goes for anybody who reads this. Weather you have Banks on your truck. Hopefully it'll make you think twice.

Ok, here goes:

Make sure it's between 12pm-1pm PST. Call their toll free number, ask to speak with someone in Tech Support. What did you get? Hint, they're all at lunch. What type of company, especially the size of Banks, sends all of they tech support guys to lunch at the same time. I'm serious, please try this and post what happened. It's absolutly amazing.

The reason I know about this is because I've been stuck on the freeway with a 10,000lbs RV hooked up. Merging on to the freeway the truck dies. There I am, dead stop in the slow lane. Truck won't even start. Called the tech support and no one. Had to lay on the ground and unplug their crap and put my truck back to stock right there. Busiest freeway in CA (15 on the way to Vegas). Semis blowing by at 70mph. Let me tell you, it's a lot of fun.

I think the design flaw in the High Ram is the way it enlarges in diameter then squeezes down again to enter the grid heater region. If they would have designed a nice even-bore transition all the way though it would flow better.

It may flow better at lower power levels but as boost pressure and flow rises you can imagine the turbulence that's induced where the intake necks down.

I've read Driverno's story before, doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling about Banks  Don't get me wrong Banks does make some nice parts & pieces, some of which I wouldn't mind having on my 12-valve, and some of their systems work pretty well, but it's more about hype than sound engineering and it comes at a premium price.

I am curious as to what you had to switch under the truck. Mine can be switched to stock inside the cab.

I have tried this on my '02 and it did give me 20 more horsepower. NO KIDDING. Now I'm not fond of Banks myself either (that's another story). I was at a Dyno event last year with my truck and the shop owner had one on the shelf and asked me if I wouldn't mind trying it on my truck because he wasn't sure if it did help performance? I said sure (as long as I'm not obligated to buy it), and he was cool with that. So I bolted it on right after my 1st and 2nd run of 445 hp and 449hp 30+ lbs of boost(truck still on Dyno), took 20 minutes. Fired her up and went right back to it with a run of 469hp and EGT's 75 degrees lower. I was pretty impressed I had to say, dyno numbers proved it. I actually would have bought it right there but I didn't have the money(of course I would have had to grind the "BANKS" off and repaint it). So that's my story with the "Hi-Ram".

I couldn't take it off inside the cab. Their 6 Gun plugs in to the cam/crank sensors. That's why I was under the truck. Their little do-dad thing that plugs in to bypass their system didn't work at all. It did absolutly nothing. So that's why I went under the hood to disconnect.

Anybody try calling them yet?

True if box is working. When not you have to unhook all connections to get truck running.

anyone have a highram we can flow on a bench? just to see the numbers it flows over the stock horn. I have seen a small welded bead in a suzook 1150 head flow more.
