I replaced my S300 which worked just fine with a HTT SS62 last weekend. Performance Turbo Motorsports in Belton, TX did the work for me. I also had PTM install a new ATS manifold.

The first thing you will notice is that the SS62 is noticeably louder with more turbo whine. If you wind up the turbo and back off suddenly you will really hear it spool down. My 4 year old even told me my truck sounds different.

Spool up is quick and you can tell that your pushing a larger volume of air even though both turbos make about the same boost pressure. Smoke has been decreased by close to 50% especially at 30 - 38 lbs of boost. Before my truck would make smoke that would make people swerve to avoid it. I even had some one call the number on my truck to complain about the smoke. My F1 1. 6 90 HP injectors work great with the SS62. I haven't towed anything heavy yet so I don't have any EGT information yet.

My EGT's with the S300 and Smarty on level 9 never really got above 1050 F. I don't expect to have any EGT issues with the SS62. Even with my water\meth turned off my truck runs great EGT's up hill with a 17,000 load.

The bottom line is that I would definitely recommend the High Tech Turbo Super Stock 62. My new Dyno numbers from Fuel Injection Specialties in San Antonio are 447. 5 HP & 983. 5 TQ. The PowerDyne software that runs their Dyno works great. The dyno plugs into the data port of the test vehicle and give you very detailed information about the dyno run.

I have an Edge Comp stacked with a Smarty. For Performance (not towing) I run the Comp on level 6 and the Smarty on level 8. For towing I run just the Smarty on level 9.

DPrew,

What were your dyno numbers with S300? I am going to go with an HTT SuperStock turbo here shortly... leaning toward a 64 instead of a 62, though.

isb360, you better have some fuel to throw at the 64/14ldp, the 62 is probubly a better choice for under 500hp.

My only other dyno run was on a DynoJet dyno. They had to power brake the truck to make it spool up and it because the DynoJet is not a resistance dyno. The truck would only make 30 lbs of boost on the dyno (should have made close to 40 lbs). Also, my new meth\water injection was leaking at the time so it's effect on my dyno run are unknown. Some how the dyno spit out 452 HP & 902 TQ as the numbers.

The MD 1750 Dyno I used the second time with the new turbo installed created resistance and plugged into the diagnostic port on the truck. The MD 1750 measured boost, engine temps, MPH, as well as HP & TQ. DynoJets may work better for gassers but I think for Diesels they are too hard on the brakes and the numbers produced are not very accurate. It's worth the drive if you can find a place with a late model Mustang dyno.

Your going to notice a huge drop in smoke output compared with you stock turbo. You'll also see a nice drop in EGT's. For performance I run my Smarty on 8 and my Comp on 6X6 and don't emit any really nasty black smoke clouds anymore. There is still smoke but it doesn't darn near cause traffic accidents on a regular basis. The Smarty on 9 for towing works great with this turbo and still keeps the smoke output really low.

Jared,

Thanks for your comments. I am intrigued by this. With the 5-speed, PM3, Smarty, and Mach II's I am thinking I can manage smoke and lag reasonably well... . and at the same time leave room to go to Mach 4's or 4. 5's at my next opportunity.

What do you think of my thoughts? Other opinions welcome...

Tim

Oh... and to clarify, I am looking at the "QuickDiesel 64/13SS" that I've heard about... is that the same as the 64/14LDP (low drive pressure?). The info I'm getting is that the redesigned stainless housing will help spool and surge dramatically while keeping the heat where it belongs... .

Tim

Sorry, yes and no the 64/14 ldp is the same turbo with the cast housing the 64/13 ss ldp is the one you are looking at . I have run both the 62 and 64 turbos in the 71 series but not the ss housing and am very impressed with them, but the 62 does a great job with my 150hp sticks and if you tow I would go with a 62/13ss if you want the stainless. Awsome turbos and imho they are alot better than the HTB2 series which I have also run. All great turbos but the 71 series seems a lot better match for my truck and those like it (mods. ) I love my Quick Diesel but the 62/LDP was funner to drive on the street. The SS looks awsome polished though.....

Jared

Hi Jared,

Thanks for info. I can tell you were thinking faster than you were typing. I think I follow you.

I was thinking of HTB2 series until I read about the SS... . now if the price would just come down... how about a group buy... anyone????

I tow about 1/2dozen times per year and it's typically under 7500lbs, so mostly it's going to be empty and for fun... and that's why I thought I could tolerate the 64/13ss rather than the 62/13ss.

Am I making sense, still?

What Edge Comp has a level 6? Mines only got 5. Is it the later version with different settings? If so I've not heard of that.
