Ok I did some testing and found the truck will move forward and rearward as soon as I release the brake pedal. The feature doesn't seem to be working. Does the truck need to be on an incline to work correctly? It was only a slight incline where I was testing.

Yes, i think it needs at least a 1.5-2% incline. There is a built in accelerometer like in most smart phones. It won't activate on a small incline

I assume you have a newer truck than the one in your signature? If so, it holds for me on a slight incline, but it needs to be turned on in the EVIC. It also works both in forward and reverse. For example, my driveway is so steep I need to use 4wd to back up my driveway when it rains. It's also so steep when I back down my driveway my hitch draw bar will actually hit the concrete where it levels out. Anyway, in this driveway, even when hooked up to my trailer, the hill assist will hold when I let the foot off the brake.

Yes it is turned on and its a 16 2500. I need to try it in a steeper incline.

I thought forum B was kidding. HSA activates closer to a 7 % grade. I am a poor judge of grade.

So, look for a steeper hill. It also has to be in gear.

Here is what the manual says

For someone that dislikes hill start assist......you've certainly spent a lot of time on it.

Well, as a former science teacher, I found it interesting. I turned it off on my truck, thanks to you pointing out the option on the EVIC.

Galilieo discovered all objects fall under gravity at the same rate regardless of mass. And consequently, objects (regardless of mass) will roll (accelerate down a hill under gravity) at the same rate. However, an more massive object like a truck hooked to a trailer will take more force to prevent its roll.
I was surprised to see Ram design its HSA at such a steep incline. I would have thought a towing vehicle would be designed with a lower activation grade on its HSA.

I expect a real good eye roll on this post. Lol

If RAM gets as "girly" as FoMoCo in regards to their trailer backing technology, I'm sure they (RAM) will eventually drop the HSA % to 2.756 percent :-laf

Others have mentioned coordination of the parking brake on hills with manual transmissions. I owned two manual tansmission RAM 2500's w/CTD (NV4500 & NV5600) and I never had to utilize the parking brake. A little "heel & toe" action and off I went.

Not knowing I even had HSA while backing my 5er up into its spot made my 6.7L feel like I was trying to move it with a 2.5L.
She's a steep one! I'm keeping it off.

It doesn't stay on, it's only on for a few seconds. I would think you'd love having it for a driveway like that.

Now I don't own a new Ram still driving the 01 which definitely does not have HSA. However my VW Golf TDI does. It is on for 3 seconds and at least on this vehicle its hold assist is at the same brake pressure as it was when you let off the brake. I have found that if for whatever reason I have the brake pedal held hard the brake assist can be very difficult to overcome with my manual unless I wait for the 3 seconds and/or time it correctly. So I have made it a habit that once I stop I let the brake pedal pressure reduce to the point of starting to roll and then add just enough to stop which usually is very little so that when I take off I am not trying overcome fully/heavily applied brakes. At first I used to hate it but once I understood what it was doing and why now I like it it is a nice feature. Not sure I see much of a need for it on an automatic though.

This is one of the very few things on our TDI jetta that I absolutely hate.....
