History Channel now - Modern Marvels about engines

Great show about engines (steam, gasoline, sterling, etc) on History channel now. They have John Heywood on it... he wrote a very well respected book on internal combustion engines!!

Good stuff !

I love that channel. It's for mature, thoughtful, down to earth people who like facts and the absolute wonder of engine technology. In spite of that, I am allowed to watch it anyway. >) I finally learned how the Stirling engine works.

I was most impressed by the new G. E. jet engine to be used on the Boeing 777. 127,900 pounds of thrust !! Good heavens, the thing can blow boulder piles around like cardboard boxes. Notice the shape of the inlet turbine blades? Look like a turbine wheel, with the curved leading edge, and formed from Carbon fiber polymers. The leading edge is titanium. Just an awesome engine.

I also enjoyed the mention of Rudolph Diesel as an important figure in engine developement.

I caught that episode, absolutely loved it. The large stationary steam engine being in use until the late '70s was cool. Enjoyed the GE turbine engine testing, tumbling 400 pound boulders behind.
