... Nice bumper, but the finish is crap. Poor or no prep before powdercoating. Gonna have mine redone. NOT happy.

You wanna see a crap powdercoat job, check out my Ranch Hands. My Tough Country running boards have held up pretty well and are much closer to the ground. My bumpers are more rust than black anymore-- They look 20 years old.

Your'e not the first one I've seen post that. Mine are holding up very well.

Of course, I don't live in the "salt belt" either.

Ranch Hand = hecho en Mexico.

You just did.

I'm not sure how this became a ******* contest between your bumper and mine. However, the Ute website shows a bumper that took out a 150# deer and all they did was polish the blemish with aluminum polish.

Working with metal for over 20 years, I'm satisfied that it'll do the job. I'm also satisfied that it's not so stout that a front end impact bends the frame clear back to the rear spring shackle ... ... ... . i've seen this happen with 8" heavy walled pipe ... ... ... . yup, that's how we did it back in those days :-laf

I have my reasons, you have yours ... ... ... . good enough?

I just asked a question. You got pissinged off.

How would that aluminum hold if you hit a 200 lb hog going 70 mph?

You asked a rhetorical question that you knew I had no answer for, unless I had in fact hit a 200# hog with a Ute bumper, which you know I haven't. And then came back and said I never answered your question. A 150# deer at 70mph doesn't stand a chance, I know that.

Besides, deer are pretty quick but I don't think I'll have any problems avoiding hogs. I've got 312,687 miles (as of this second) on this truck alone criss crossing the country, and I've just now hit my first deer ... ..... I don't plan on making a habit of it like you apparanty have.

You can run your Mad Max looking bumper, and I'll run mine.

rhetorical:a question posed for rhetorical effect rather than for the purpose of getting an answer.

For your info you cannot use the defined word in the definiton of said word.

Friend of mine was killed about 10 years ago on his way back from his ranch after hitting a hog. Rolled his suburban over into a tree. I hit a small hog about 3 years ago with no damage. So, dont think that you can just drive around one. I would rather take my chances in the ditch than hit a 200 pounder.

I dont make a habit of it, as you so snidely suggested, but I average around 100,000 miles per year hauling oilfield equipment. Im on the road alot.

You can run your city boy bling bling bumper, and I'll run my mad max bumper.

thank you very much...

Well, I was supposed to be home Thursday June, 28th and figured I'd have the BullBar installed when I dropped my truck off at the bodyshop Monday, July 2nd. However, I didn't get in until late Sunday on the 1st.

Anyway, I went up today to do the wiring and help with the installation since the paint was all done and the grill was replaced.

As I suspected ... ... ... I don't care how heavy your bumper is, or what it's made out of, you need a weak link. There will always be a weak link!

This even takes me back to some of the tow hook threads from a couple of years ago.

The frame horn only has 4 bolts in it, 2 per side.

I don't care how strong a bumper you build, it's only as strong as what it's bolted to.

I'll stick with my polished aluminum bumper anyday! Call it bling, but dang it's sharp!!!

Well, where the heck are the pics??!!!:-laf

:-laf I'll post the deal tomorrow. Turned out that I needed 2 factory brackets that had the holes slotted by the impact.

The wiring was a piece of cake, took 30 minutes or so with solder and heat shrink. I wanted to use the heat shrink with adhesive inside, but I just used some dialelectric grease at the solder joint before sliding the heat shrink over and shrinking.

Buckstop vs Bull Bar

I had a pretty chrome bull bar on my truck when I tapped a pole with the front bumper. The bull bar folded like a sheet of paper and the bumper was trashed. Rather then replace the pretty but totally inadequate OEM bumper I replaced it with a Buckstop Bumper. Now I have not hit anything with my new setup but the amount of steel in this new setup gives me a feeling that I would have a fighting chance with anything smaller then an elk. Google Buckstop Bumper to see what I mean.

I hit a buck antelope with my "city boy" Herd aluminum bumper. It wiped the bugs off the bumper, and my balljoints are still in good shape:-laf.

Never thought I'd be in the "city boy" club. O yay
